Sanborn Provides States with Crucial Broadband Mapping Information and Solutions

Colorado Springs, Colorado, March 9, 2010 - - John Copple, CEO of Sanborn, an industry leader in geospatial solutions, announced today that it has won three prime contract awards for state-wide broadband mapping services along with subcontractor awards for similar broadband mapping services in four other states. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and administered by Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) program, Sanborn will provide a range of services and solutions in support of government planning and funding for high bandwidth internet access to all citizens. The purpose of the NTIA program is to increase broadband access and adoption through better planning and policymaker efforts. The results of each state broadband map will be integral in the cumulative development and maintenance of a national map that will be available to citizens in 2011.

The programs produced by Sanborn will provide consumers and government with improved and accurate information on the broadband services available to them. Sanborn will work closely with data providers in each state protecting their data while extracting and converting essential information for consumers.  Included in the plans is the development of an innovative public web site for sharing broadband maps and related information.  Through the site, citizens and businesses will be able to view maps interactively, e.g., show broadband service for any selected location, test their connection speed, and learn about broadband initiatives and programs in their area.  The online maps will also help residents find out who is providing broadband service in their area.

Sanborn’s winning proposals outlined solutions for data collection, verification, and collaboration enabling data providers, community anchor institutions, and private users to communicate broadband capability and needs. Totaling over $6M in awards, Sanborn will use its extensive GIS mapping, database, and web portal development skills to collect and produce state-wide broadband maps and analysis with multiple deliveries over the next 24 months.
