Digital Domain's Work Nominated for Two Academy Awards

-- Real Steel and Transformers: Dark of the Moon nominated for Visual Effects Oscar® --

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (January 24, 2012) - Digital Domain Media Group (NYSE: DDMG), a leading digital production company focused on visual effects, original content animation and studio co-productions, announced that two of the feature films it worked on this year have been nominated for the visual effects Academy Award®; Real Steel and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Digital Domain Visual Effects Supervisor Erik Nash is recognized with his second Academy Award® nomination, and Digital Domain Digital Effects Supervisor Swen Gillberg with his first for their work on Dreamworks’ Real Steel. As the lead digital production studio on the movie, Digital Domain led a team that pioneered a new virtual production process that enabled director Shawn Levy to direct computer-generated (CG) characters as if they were actually present on set in real-world locations -- and achieve the visual spectacle of massive robots boxing in a way that felt visceral and believable. Paramount’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon marks Digital Domain’s return to the franchise for the third time and Visual Effects Supervisor Matthew Butler’s first Academy Award® nomination. Digital Domain’s work included creating new and returning robot characters and a key sequence featuring wing-suited skydivers bailing out of helicopters and flying over the burning city of Chicago under attack by the Decepticons. The company also contributed 2D-to-3D conversion artistry to the stereo 3D feature film for director Michael Bay. Learn more at http://digitaldomain.com/projects/20

Nash, Gillberg and Butler will attend the Academy Awards® on Sunday, February 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, where the outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be recognized and televised live by the ABC Television Network.
