GISi Helps Emmet County Make the Switch to Esri

March 14, 2012 -- In December 2011, GISi completed a GIS HealthCheck for Emmet County, Mi.  This HealthCheck provided the County with a roadmap for moving their GIS program forward.  This roadmap included short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals.  The County had been using the MapInfo platform for the past 12 years and one of its short-term goals was to move to the Esri platform.

In January 2012, GISi assisted the County in the adoption of the Esri Local Government Information Model, which allowed the County to leverage the ArcGIS for Local Government Solution.   GISi converted the existing GIS data from MapInfo to Esri format, assisted the County in setting up a new server, installed the ArcGIS Server software, and set up their Enterprise Geodatabase (ArcSDE).  The implementation of the Local Government Information Model allowed the County to take advantage of the ArcGIS for Local Government templates.  GISi set up the Destination Emmet County Maps and Apps Portal, which is based on the Esri Maps and Apps Portal Template.  The new Maps and Apps portal provides the County staff and its citizens with a central location to access maps and information.  GISi assisted the County in deploying the GISi GIS Data Viewer, Tax Parcel Viewer and Parcel Notification Viewer (Internal only).  By taking advantage of the ArcGIS for Local Government infrastructure, the County has the ability to add more apps to their site down the road.

“By implementing the ArcGIS for Local Government Solution, the County can now take advantage of the vast sets of tools, applications and maps available from the Local Government Resource Center, saving the County time and money as they move GIS forward” said Brent Johnson,  Technical Architect with GISi

“We are excited to provide our citizens with the ability to access our GIS data via the Maps and Apps portal, giving the citizens the ability to search and look up property information 24/7.” – Said Gary Appold, IT Manager for Emmet County
