Sequans Reaches LTE-M Milestone With Successful Testing of Sequans Monarch Chip on Orange Network

PARIS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 10, 2018 — LTE for IoT chipmaker Sequans Communications S.A. (NYSE: SQNS) announced that its Monarch LTE-M chip has successfully passed interoperability testing with leading European mobile operator Orange. Sequans has been collaborating with Orange for many years with the goal of supporting the operator’s LTE-M strategy and accelerating the growth of its LTE for IoT ecosystem.

“We are pleased to support Orange with their LTE-M network strategy and now that our Monarch chip is proven interoperable with their network equipment, we are ready for the next phase, and expect to see numerous Monarch-powered IoT devices launching on Orange’s LTE-M network,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO.

“Sequans’ Monarch technology enables low cost and low power LTE-M IoT devices and supports our strategy to deploy LTE-M as a priority all over Europe,” said Luc Savage, VP, Devices Enterprise IoT, Orange. “LTE-M is especially useful for IoT use cases where support of mobility, real-time bi-directional link, and low and medium throughput is key, and Sequans’ Monarch is proven solution, already designed into many of these types of devices around the world.”

“Our Monarch technology provides a proven and truly valuable solution that can deploy all over Europe and indeed all over the world using a single hardware SKU that can operate on any frequency band,” said Karam.

Sequans’ Monarch LTE Cat M1/NB1 Platform is the world’s most highly optimized LTE-M/NB-IoT chip. It provides full support for power saving mode (PSM) and extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) to enable the long battery life needed by many IoT use cases, and it provides the enhanced coverage modes defined in the standard that extend coverage for deep-indoor and remote deployments. Monarch comprises baseband, RF, power management, and RAM, integrated into a single, tiny 6.5 x 8.5 mm package. Monarch also supports advanced features such as programmable RF filtering for global band support in a Single-SKU™, and proprietary dynamic power management technology enabling rock bottom low power consumption of 1 micro amp for long battery life. Monarch has previously been certified by operators in USA and Japan.
