Aberdeen Group Launches New Study Focused on Creating a PLM Ecosystem

ANDOVER, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 07, 2008 -- Omnify Software, a leading provider of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for electronic, medical, mechanical, and defense manufacturers, today announces the availability of a new study from Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), "Integrating the PLM Ecosystem." Based on a survey of over 270 manufacturers, this report serves as a roadmap for companies seeking to identify Best-in-Class approaches to the integration of the disparate applications within the PLM suite and the extension of those applications into the broader enterprise ecosystem to achieve higher returns from their product investments.

The report reveals that Best-in-Class manufacturers are creating a PLM ecosystem to integrate data, processes, and systems in order to centralize product data within the PLM environment and make product related information available to the entire organization. The driving factors for manufacturers to integrate disparate applications are to streamline product development and change management processes and improve product development efficiency.

"Based on our research, industry leaders are integrating business processes and product data across the multiple product development, data management, design, and analysis applications that make up the extended Product Lifecycle Management suite," stated Jim Brown, vice president and service director, global product innovation and engineering for the Aberdeen Group. "PLM integration improves efficiency, helping companies meet product launch dates and revenue targets."

Omnify Software supports Best-in-Class practices by offering open technology that allows customers to easily integrate Omnify with their engineering and business systems. "Omnify's ability to directly interface with our engineering design and ERP applications has given engineers control over their schematics as well as visibility into extended information such as costs, lead times, and vendor status to help them make better design decisions," stated Scott Douglas, manager, engineering services for Harman Specialty Group. "In addition, the ability to automatically export information from the Omnify database into our ERP system was critical to eliminate the duplicate data entry that we had been doing in the past and ensure data accuracy."

"As stated in the report, leveraging PLM to centralize product data and make information readily available across the enterprise is vital for manufacturers to meet product development targets," stated Chuck Cimalore, CTO for Omnify Software. "We chose to underwrite this study due to the fact that since inception, our philosophy has been to help customers create an integrated environment and make product data accessible to distributed product development teams. This is evident in our open integration technology platform and functionality that allows customers to associate all aspects of product development data to a single product record."
