Newmont Mining Corporation Renews Global GIS Enterprise License with ESRI

Outstanding Technical Support and Centralized License Management Are Key Reasons for Renewal

Redlands, California—October 5, 2009—Newmont Mining Corporation recently renewed its global geographic information system (GIS) enterprise license agreement with ESRI. The global enterprise license agreement enables Newmont to deploy the full suite of ArcGIS products in an open, scalable, and standards-based GIS architecture that will integrate with and leverage existing Newmont information technology (IT) resources.

The ESRI global enterprise license allows Newmont unlimited access to ESRI GIS technology and support. Newmont uses ESRI technology to create distributed data repositories that replicate data from central servers. Employees ranging from GIS professionals to casual users access the company's data via an intranet portal.

Over the past three years, Newmont has also successfully converted its divergent GIS data to ESRI enterprise data management. It has also managed and shared that data on a global basis.

Brian Krzys, manager of the Exploration Systems Group at Newmont, says, "We're pleased to continue the close working relationship with ESRI, and the enterprise license agreement has allowed us to efficiently take advantage of the breadth of ESRI tools, which are deployed from managing the global spatial infrastructure, through desktop and increasingly Web-based visualization. ESRI's proven technology, outstanding support, and access to leading-edge Web-based mapping capabilities are key factors that led to our decision to renew."

"We're excited that Newmont will continue to work with ESRI to increase information access within the organization as well as to its wide base of clients abroad," says Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI. "It has been rewarding to see Newmont Mining Corporation use its GIS so effectively to improve its operations on a global scale."
