DeskProto® presents free CAM training videos, free 3D models and free software.

Utrecht (Netherlands), Nov 23, 2009 -- Delft Spline Systems has extended on-line support for the DeskProto 3D CAM software by adding a series of free instruction videos. Users can view these videos free of charge on www.deskproto.com (support menu).

Topics covered by the new CAM training videos include DeskProto basics, Roughing, Finishing, Rotation axis machining and Wax ring machining. The geometry files for all videos are free 3D models, so users can complete a video lesson by machining their own model, for instance a Venus de Milo bust, or an attractive ring design. Watching videos is a quick and easy way to learn how to machine 3D models.

Especially interesting is the video on making a Coat-of-Arms relief. This video shows how simple it is to machine complex geometry in 3D using DeskProto. It also shows how to customize a model by adding graphics and text. Just import any 2D bitmap image for the graphics on the shield and let DeskProto convert the grey values to Z heights to make the bitmap 3D. And add text onto the ribbon by importing a 2D DXF file.

"With this great Coat-of-Arms geometry, users can create a unique model to use as a gift, a trophy, a sign, an award or for any other purpose, you name it." says Lex Lennings, DeskProto sales manager. "The geometry is scalable, so models can vary in size from a small pin in silver to a huge sign in PS foam several meters high. Even users of the free trial version can make these models. This should be fun, we’re really looking forward to seeing the pictures of their results."

Two versions of the STL file are available, one with both shield and banner curved in 3D, the other with a flat shield and banner. The latter is meant for DeskProto Lite, which at only € 145 is one of the cheapest 3D CAM programs on the market. Even cheaper is the free trial version, which is fully functional for 30 days. If users finish their projects within the trial period they will have done so completely free of charge.

Delft Spline Systems is offering free DeskProto Lite Licenses to three trial users who create the best, the most original and most artistic Coat-Of-Arms. To enter the competition and apply for a free license: send pictures of your beautiful Coat-of-Arms model to info@deskproto.com. Closing date: Feb 1st, 2010.

DeskProto will be presenting the training videos and a number of models at the Euromold show, Dec 2-5, 2009 at Frankfurt, Germany (www.euromold.com). Visit DeskProto in Hall 8.0, stand number B111 where, besides viewing videos, visitors can of course also get live tutorials on DeskProto 3D CAM software.

About DeskProto:

DeskProto by Delft Spline Systems is the 3D CAM program that has made CNC milling a competitive technology for Rapid Prototyping. The software can import STL files from any 3D CAD system, and can export NC program files suited for any 3-axis or 4-axis CNC milling machine. Key feature is the ease of use: DeskProto is aimed at designers, not (as most other CAM software) at CAM specialists.

Despite its low-end price DeskProto contains many high-end features, like automatic feedrate reduction at high chiploads, collet collision check, full rotation axis support, the two-sided milling wizard, and much more. Current users range from one-person design and model shops to multinational A-brand companies like Unilever, Lancôme, Sony-Ericsson and NASA.
