TopSolid earns the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo

Thanks to Missler Software's support of Windows 7 TopSolid will benefit from the power of Windows 7 on next generation touch screen hardware, making 3D mechanical design easier to use than ever before. 3D data is more and more complex and performance is now a key issue in the current CAD/CAM world so optimized hardware and software is essential.

Using Windows 7 technology, Missler Software guarantees its TopSolid users the most high-performance working environment. “Windows 7 has proven to be an ideal platform for developing TopSolid 7, the 7th generation of our integrated software range. From core video architecture improvements to the exciting new multi-touch user interface extensions, Microsoft has provided a solid foundation for high performance." confirms Christian Arber , CEO of Missler Software. “Windows 7 was designed with the customer in mind. We are pleased to have the support of Microsoft to offer our mutual customers enhanced functionalities and value.”

Missler Software’s R&D teams have been working with Microsoft Corp. to ensure that TopSolid would be compatible with Windows 7. One of the many new improvements for TopSolid 7 users, thanks to this collaboration, is the new taskbar which is easier to see, more flexible and more powerful. TopSolid 7's first customer

Company CRB is located in the Beaujolais, a wine-making region in the South-East of France . In its brand new offices the company makes industrial machines, concentrating especially on machines for the textile industry. Mr Roland Bertholon, company CEO, explains with passion how his design department works. CRB offers ideas to its customers to automate production, reduce manufacturing times and help companies continue to manufacture in France.  CRB's customers include large industrial companies such as Lafuma or small entities such as fishermen from the Geneva Lake who asked CRB to develop a machine to raise their fishing nets. Thanks to the company’s very spacious offices it can develop and test new concepts such as the automatic transhipment of the contents of a semi-trailor. CRB is also currenly developing a new industrial sewing machine which associates mechanical engineering and vision for automated stitching. A lot of new ideas and creations see the light within the CRB offices.

CRB has been using TopSolid in its design department for several years now. Thanks to the software’s versatility, its powerful modeling possibilities and kinematic simulation CRB is certain of being able to develop the most complex machines and projects. Thanks to TopSolid’s advanced draft generation functions the company can generate high-quality manufacturing plans which it provides to its sub-contractors.

CRB is Missler Software’s first customer to work with its new generation of CAD/CAM software, TopSolid 7. All machines now designed by the company are created with TopSolid 7. The new generation of software makes design work much easier and offers a reduction in design times of 15% thanks in particular to the very impressive projection times from 3D to 2D. The possibility to manage the entire design process with the integrated and transparent Pdm within TopSolid 7 secures the design process, part versions and their availability for sub-contractors. It is no longer necessary to ask several questions before changing the name of a part used in various assemblies and machines. The integrated Pdm in TopSolid 7 manages this.

Missler Software has relied upon CRB’s expertise in the development of TopSolid 7 and vice versa. “Missler Software has always helped us and advised us during the design of difficult projects and in the creation of very specific functions.“ confirms Mr Roland Bertholon. This can also be said of CRB, outlines Mr. Gasmi, Technical Manager for Missler Software. "CRB’s input has been essential in the development of new functions in TopSolid 7.

TopSolid'Mold 2010 launch on EuroMold

Missler Software has announced the launch of TopSolid’Mold 2010 which will be released in February 2010 and which can be previewed on the EuroMold fair in Frankfurt.

Advanced collaborative work possibilities
Since the 2009 version TopSolid’Mold manages the design of a mold in a collaborative environment.  Several designers can now work on the same project at the same time. TopSolid’s collaborative work options, which are unique on the market, offer significant productivity gains in complex tool design.

Improved positioning of runners and gates
TopSolid’Mold 2010 offers very powerful functions for the design and management of various feeding elements (positioning of gates, runners, injection sections …)

New standard component libraries
On average 70% of a manufactured product is made up of standard elements. Hence the need to constantly improve and offer more standard components. TopSolid’Mold 2010 offers new and more complex components such as equipped drawers.

Improved attribution tools : manage imported elements as if you created them yourself
TopSolid’Mold 2010 allows users to easily use elements imported from a component supplier’s website. By using the new « Plate Allocation » function an imported mold base will behave in the same way as a mold base designed natively using TopSolid.

Direct link with CadMould, plastic injection simulation solution
The direct link with the CadMould software allows TopSolid customers to directly benefit from the advantages of plastic simulation. This new partnership offers TopSolid’Mold users an optimised tool for the design of plastic parts and can be used as a first step in determining the feasibility, quality and cost of designing their parts and injection molds.

Customer of the month: DCNS

Designing naval vessels involves working around issues unlike those in any other industrial business sector: extreme density of equipment, a variety of technologies, including nuclear technology, the absence of standards, etc. The design tool must therefore be totally CAD/CAM integrated, whilst also highly specific to this sector.

In 2005 the management at DCNS decided to renew its digital design tools. The investment process, invitation to tender, and benchmarking lasted a year; Missler Software was finally selected in preference to companies with bigger structures. 120 TopSolid CAD/CAM workstations have therefore come to replace Euclid software on all the manufacturer’s business lines.

TopSolid Tip of the month: TopSolid 7

You are a TopSolid operator and you would like some tips on what your software is capable of doing. Each newsletter will include a highlight of the month accompanied by an avi of a TopSolid module.
This month let's take a look at a new tip for TopSolid 7.

Video commentary

Drilling groups
In mechanical design users often have to dimension drillings depending on the centre of a part or face. In order to make this easier TopSolid 7 allows users to create a sketch from which the drilling points can be defined. All actions are carried out from the menu bar.

  • Create a sketch based on a line
  • Create a middle point in your line
  • Add a centre point constraint between the edges of the part and the middle point of the line
  • Ensure that extremity points are not within the sketch: for each of these points will have a drilling
  • Create a drilling group

Reposition sketches
Design mistakes can happen easily so modifications need to be easy and fast. TopSolid 7 reponds perfectly to this requirement.

In our example the user wishes to move the drillings to another face:

  • Edit the sketch of the drilling group
  • Click on reposition sketch
  • Select the new drilling support face
  • Move the sketch and add dimensions to the edge of the part
  • Leave the sketch
