1Spatial delivers landmark solution in Southeast Asia with JUPEM

March 11, 20101 -- Spatial is proud to announce the delivery of an advanced mapping solution to JUPEM, the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia. Working closely with local partners MecSpatial and Digital Leader, a new Thematic Map Publishing System has been delivered, introducing the benefits of automation into JUPEM.

The contract has replaced an existing, interactive Thematic Map Publishing System with a new production flowline. The new flowline is based on 1Spatial’s technologies for automated geo-processing and quality control - Radius Studio and Radius Clarity.

The solution supports rule-based integration of third party data with the larger scale digital products from the Database Department at JUPEM. Radius Studio will be used to enhance and maintain geospatial data quality, providing increased data consistency, improved productivity and confidence in the data. The newly integrated data will then be automatically generalised with Radius Clarity to a variety of scales, including 1:100,000, before maps are published as part of the Thematic Mapping series. The new Thematic Map Publishing System provides the following benefits to JUPEM:

Thomas Loon, Director from Digital Leader commented:

“As a long-standing industry leader in Malaysia JUPEM knows and understands how to get a return on their large investment in topographic data. By assessing and managing the data quality and then generalising it using 1Spatial’s unique tools this is now possible. We are proud to be part of this prestigious project delivery.”

Nic Snape, Chief Executive Officer from 1Spatial added:

“ We have been working in this area for a long time and it is only now that mainstream IT technologies have enabled us to offer a truly scalable data production environment. Our object-oriented approach underpins so many of our solutions in this area and we are pleased that JUPEM knows and understands the benefits that can be accrued from this approach. Digital Leader have worked very hard on our behalf in Malaysia and we are pleased that they were involved in this illustrious project.”

This contract is part of an ongoing programme of work to further the modernisation of JUPEM. 1Spatial’s involvement in this programme started back in 2002 when the initial investment was made in 1Spatial’s advanced object-oriented mapping technology. The relationship between the 1Spatial Group and JUPEM goes back more than 20 years to the time when the original technology was provided by 1Spatial Norway.
