Scan/US, Inc. offers postal carrier route locations with demographics

June 07, 2010 -- Scan/US, Inc. offers a combined file of postal carrier route locations and demographics for use in GIS mapping products such as ESRI's ArcView and Pitney Bowes's MapInfo.

What is a postal carrier route? Practically speaking, a postal carrier route is the most-economical geographic unit for which you can send mail. You get substantial savings if you deliver to 90 percent of the mailing addresses on a route. But which routes to choose?

The Scan/US Carrier Route Delivery Stats database ($995 national) includes, in addition to the carrier route location (latitude-longitude), the number of deliveries both business and residential, median and average household incomes for the route, housing units owned/rented/vacant, median age, households with children, household size, and household and population densities per square mile.

Scan/US also offers ZIP codes.

The Scan/US file of ZIP code areas & locations is current, high-quality, and FREE for non-commercial use, available for download on http://www.mapdata2go.com

The ZIP code file is available for use in GIS mapping software that can import geography in the shapefile format, including MapInfo and other GIS software. The ZIP code file contains all ZIP codes in the 48 states plus Alaska and Hawaii. All ZIPs are included in the file, which has both area ZIPs and ZIP locations, and contains business and residential ZIPs.

The ZIP code file is updated every quarter.

A national demographics database is also available at $250 for any geographic layer, not just ZIP codes.

The Essential Demographics Update (2010) database contains over 30 of the most-useful data items, including household income, family size, age and race, owned/occupied housing units, and active USPS postal deliveries by residential and business. You can view all the databases in the Scan/US database catalog at www.mapdata2go.com/Demographic_Data_CatalogOther Geography files
