40 Teams to Compete at Kettering University FIRST Robotics District Contest

FLINT, Mich. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 28, 2011 — Forty high school teams from around Michigan will compete March 4-5 at the 2011 Kettering University FIRST Robotics District competition in Flint. All events are free and open to the public in Kettering’s Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 4, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 5.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a national youth effort to inspire careers in engineering, science and technology.

This year’s game is LOGO MOTION, which features the colorful triangle, circle and square in FIRST’s logo. See a video on the game at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE5_snXNbdk&feature=related.

“It’s fitting that the 20th anniversary of FIRST uses the imagery that helped this important organization get started – the triangle, circle and square,” said Bob Nichols, Kettering’s director of External Affairs. “Gracious Professionalism and having fun are still the centerpieces of FIRST,” he said.

Pat Major of Goodrich again chairs the organizing committee. Featured during the games will be a display of new General Motors and Ford vehicles, furnished by Patsy Lou Williamson and Lasco Ford.
