Trimble’s Popular Nomad 900 Rugged Handheld Computer Achieves IP68 Rating and Adds Five New Language Options

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep. 12, 2011 – Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today that its Trimble® Nomad® 900 handheld computer has received an IP68 rating—the top rating for protection against dust and moisture. In addition, five new languages options have been added.

Meeting the toughest standards for Ingress Protection, the Nomad 900 is the ultimate rugged mobile device for field or industrial workers in extreme environments. The handheld computers offer reliable and rugged operation, even after prolonged exposure to water and dust. In addition to the new IP68 rating, the Trimble Nomad 900 also meets MIL-STD-810F standard for drops, vibration and temperature extremes.

"Our customers depend on us to provide mobile devices that not only meets their technical needs, but also one that's going to stand up to their rugged environments,” said Robert Davis, director of sales for Trimble’s Mobile Computing Solutions Division. “The Trimble brand is synonymous with reliability and the Nomad delivers on that promise. A rich feature set and an unmatched ultra-rugged design is a win for our customers in the field.”

Back in the office, global operations and procurement managers will find that the Nomad 900 handheld supports 10 operating system languages. Chinese, Italian, Korean, Portuguese and Russian have been added to English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, making the Nomad 900 ideal for multi-cultural settings. At initial start-up, the user can select a preferred language.

"The new language options are also great news for our customers, allowing greater flexibility," continued Davis, “Users can make the decision of which language they want to use when they receive the computer. Also resellers no longer have to order and stock units with specific languages."

The Trimble Nomad 900 packs an amazing amount of functionality into a powerful and full-featured rugged handheld computer. The Nomad features Windows Mobile®, an 806 MHz processor, a long-life battery, integrated wireless such as WWAN, GPS, Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® capabilities and a high-resolution, sunlight-visible VGA touch screen display that shows graphics and maps in crisp detail. The handheld computer also includes a 5MP auto-focus camera with flash. In addition, users can take advantage of the Trimble Nomad 900 CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) slots to add more capabilities, such as SD/SDHC memory and RFID. These features, along with the its rugged construction and computing power, make the Trimble Nomad 900 ideal for mobile workers—in forestry, public safety, surveying, construction, mapping, field service, utilities, and other outdoor or service-related industries—to collect, save and transmit data in the field.

The new Trimble Nomad handheld computers are available now through authorized Trimble distribution channels.
