Cupertino, California, Utilizes Cityworks with Many Tangible Results

Leading GIS-Centric Software Platform Producing Significant Benefits for California Municipality

September 13, 2011 -- Sandy, UT – Managing assets and operational procedures has become much easier at the City of Cupertino after implementing Cityworks, from the leading provider of GIS-centric management solutions. With enhanced workflow, improved time management, reduced paper consumption, and increased customer satisfaction, City staff look forward to expanding their use of Cityworks in the near future.

Cityworks was the clear choice for Cupertino because of its unmatched GIS capabilities, comprehensive tracking tool, and easy-to-use reporting tools. Cupertino’s Cityworks implementation began in 2009 with streetlights, traffic control, and trees.  In 2010 they brought on their storm drain system and fleet maintenance with the program.

“Cityworks has greatly enhanced Cupertino’s workflow and produced many tangible results,” stated Teri Gerhardt, GIS Coordinator at the City of Cupertino. “The City has saved a great deal of time using Cityworks because the staff can now quickly retrieve information through the system, rather than manually thumbing through stacks of paperwork. Customer service efficiency has improved dramatically because tasks don’t fall through the cracks anymore as details are documented in the database and problems remain open until they are addressed.  Our Operations staff has come to thoroughly appreciate Cityworks and utilizes all the features it offers. They feel empowered with the ability to proactively manage their assets, a nearly insurmountable challenge in the past because the intrinsic dysfunction of an antiquated paper system.”

Cityworks allows Cupertino to monitor problems and solutions more closely, allowing administrative staff members to answer questions over the phone that previously required a visit from a field worker.  Significantly reducing the amount of paper used at the City has facilitated more efficient access to information. Additionally, any discrepancies in the GIS data, such as a road name or address, are reported and corrected, allowing the City to make the system even more efficient.

Cupertino will soon begin the third phase of their asset management plan that will include deploying Cityworks to manage sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. As their asset management system continues to grow the City will likely find additional uses for Cityworks in the future.

“The type of success and satisfaction Cupertino is experiencing with Cityworks has become our norm,” stated Brian Haslam, President of Cityworks.  “Cupertino has honed in on and taken advantage of Cityworks’ most powerful benefits including its unmatched GIS-centric capabilities and resulting benefits.   We are proud to have such an outstanding user base that includes clients such as Cupertino who take full advantage of our superior solution, Cityworks, saving time, money and valuable resources.”
