Technology Automates Workflows by Eliminating Disconnect Between Design and Specifications
EXTON, Pa. – Sept. 15, 2011 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced that it has inaugurated a strategic relationship with The Engineering Essentials Company (TEEC) by investing in a minority equity position and by placing a Bentley representative on its board. Based in Philadelphia, Pa., TEEC is developing software to help AEC (architectural, engineering, and construction) organizations intelligently manage their engineering specifications and related codes and standards. The principals of TEEC are Leon Gorbaty, CEO, and Adam Klatzkin, CTO.
Commenting on the new investment, Bentley Systems Executive Vice President Barry Bentley said, “We are eagerly enthusiastic about the work that the TEEC team is doing to eliminate the current disconnect between design and specification management. TEEC’s development of SpecWave® is an important step towards software interoperability across the infrastructure lifecycle, and we look forward to the fruits of this investment, for all project constituents.”
Commenting on SpecWave’s mission, Gorbaty said, “Codes, standards, and engineering specifications are among the most important documents in the capital facilities industry as they contain much collective industry know-how. Unfortunately, the volume of this information has become unwieldy, contributing to cost overruns, schedule overruns, and rework. SpecWave delivers a new paradigm in specification automation, managing voluminous requirements while improving efficiency and reducing duplication of content across a multitude of specification-related engineering workflows. It helps customers design, procure, and install exactly what they specified, as they specified it.”
Added Klatzkin, “With SpecWave we are addressing industry-wide problems and inefficiencies by leveraging modern technology to create an application suite that is powerful, yet simple to use, in comparison to the archaic incumbents. Our driving goal is to facilitate smart documents that capture and recognize the intelligence intended by the authors and collaborators. The content in these documents becomes highly manageable and interoperable with business processes and applications like Building Information Modeling, project scheduling tools, and other design and supporting applications, to automate many AEC workflows that are currently performed manually. The content itself is separated from its presentation, allowing a single document to function for multiple purposes.”
Leon Gorbaty has nearly 20 years of experience in the areas of mechanical and software engineering. He received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with honors from the University of Pittsburgh, and an Executive Master of Science in the management of technology from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. Adam Klatzkin has more than 15 years of experience in the software engineering industry and holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in electrical and computer engineering, and an additional major in computer science, from Carnegie Mellon University.
