Movial Rides Embedded Systems Wave, Sees Increase in Demand for its Experience Engineering from Industrial High-Tech and Manufacturing Communities

Growth Underscores Findings on Embedded Software Use Announced by the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA)

HELSINKI — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 7, 2011Movial, the Experience Engineering company, today announced it has seen an increase in demand for its services on embedded systems from the global industrial high-tech and manufacturing communities. This increase in demand is in line with today’s findings on embedded software use as announced by ETLA,The Research Insititute of the Finnish Economy as well as other recent studies showing that embedded systems are being used to enable exciting, new services.

The ETLA study found that physical goods with embedded software are having an important role in the services business of manufacturing companies. Remote monitoring and other data analysis via the Internet are typical uses of software.

According to Jyrki Ali-Yrkkö, head of research at ETLA, improved ways of utilizing software is key in the renewal of industries and central to stimulating industrial service business models. “I believe industrial companies and their essential technology partners understand the link between industrial service as a business and embedded software,” said Jyrki Ali-Yrkkö. “Technology partners can assist their customers to renew and to develop new service and product offerings.”

The marked interest in embedded systems stems from the recent commoditization of pure hardware products. Increased computing power of embedded systems and the use of secure cloud computing has paved the way for the creation of value added services that greatly enhance user experiences, a key specialization of Movial expertise.

”We are seeing healthy customer demand for our experience engineering design and user experience embedded software development services coming in particular from the manufacturering community,” said Jari Ala-Ruona, CEO of Movial. ”Interest from Western product driven manufacturers looking to identify their core benefits to their end-users and improve their competitiveness against low cost hardware by improving the user experience of their devices with value adding services, is at an all-time high."

Movial is working with both international and domestic manufacturers to help them bridge the gap between end user expectations and current product, software and service offerings. The company is providing insight and research to identify key value added service opportunities for manufacturers’ product and service offering development.

Movial recently completed several projects including evaluation of current hardware products, embedded software and service assets, and the reassembling of these into offerings that generate sustainable competitive advantage and added end user value for long term customer relationship building including:

  • Transformation of public devices into connected devices that offer real-time information and advertisements
  • Connection of a logistics service provider’s handheld device to cloud services for improved data quality
  • Development of user experience value-added services on home automation equipment as offered by device manufacturers
  • Connection of heavy machinery to cloud services for real-time performance information that improves data accuracy and quality of maintenance and support services.
