OpenGeo Brings Open Source Geospatial to GEOINT

OpenGeo Showcases Open Source Geospatial Solutions for GEOINT Community

New York, New York, October 12, 2011OpenGeo, the open source geospatial software company behind the OpenGeo Suite will be exhibiting at the GEOINT 2011 Symposium. Hosted by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), GEOINT is respected as the largest intelligence conference in the United States. The 2011 symposium runs from October 16 to 19 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Within the GEOINT community many are finding that open source technologies supported by OpenGeo – OpenGeo Suite, PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers and more – offer superior capabilities and reduced costs for web mapping and geospatial services. The OpenGeo Suite is a complete OGC standards-compliant web mapping platform, built on cutting-edge open source geospatial components. These open source components, developed and maintained by active open source communities, feature functionality including: spatial data sharing, mapping, and online editing tools.

Enterprises, government agencies and others have adopted the powerful software stack to support their geospatial technology needs. They all rely on the support of a single, stable vendor, OpenGeo, to provide: professional services, expert support, deliver ready-to-run packaged binaries, access to training, enterprise-only extra features, and configuration and implementation expertise.

“Open source software is quickly gaining wide acceptance in the GEOINT community,” noted Ken Bossung, OpenGeo Sr. Vice President. “The GEOINT symposium provides a unique venue for those involved in national security – government, industry, homeland security, academia, non-governmental organizations etc. - to learn more about how they can improve their capabilities, meet their mission goals and reduce costs with open source technologies. It’s clear that awareness is higher than ever, for the first time at GEOINT there are sessions specifically focused on the use of open source software within the GEOINT community”. Mr. Bossung further illustrated this point by noting that his colleague, Edward Pickle, will be participating in the workshop Demonstration of Military Relevant Open Source Geospatial Software on Wednesday, October 19th.

OpenGeo will be exhibiting in booth #161, showcasing the OpenGeo Suite and GeoNode, OpenGeo’s collaborative web mapping solution.
