SHEFFIELD - November 22, 2011 – MachineWorks Ltd, provider of true solid-based simulation and verification component software is presenting its new polygon solid modeling toolkit, Polygonica, at Euromold in Hall 8, Stand A123.

Polygonica toolkit is a software solution that solves problems in solid models such as self-intersecting triangles or open solids. Polygonica also provides useful functions for STL manipulation such as slicing, geometry simplification and other Boolean operations.

Problems with large data

There are many frustrated users out there trying to handle models with millions of polygons. Seriously large models cause problems and just trying to open them can cause computers to freeze. Manipulating large STL files often limits the scope of the work.

Problems with bad data

Open solids that need healing, inverted triangles that need re-orienting, having to spend time preparing the data to be able to use it... these are common occurrences that affect many users, taking time and costing money.

Sound like a familiar story? What is perhaps not so familiar is that hardware manufacturers are starting to offer their customers integrated software solutions.

Manufacturers of 3D printers, rapid prototyping and laser sintering machines used to think that bad data was not their problem but their customers' problem. They have now realised that by offering their very own software solution they can add value to their product offering as well as reinforce the relationship with their customers.

Polygonica is an OEM toolkit, not a standalone application. It can also help existing software to perform better. Polygonica comes as a set of libraries that are integrated into manufacturers' applications allowing both the manufacturer and its customers to deal with solid manipulation issues cost-effectively.

Polygonica has been benchmarked against other industry solutions and the feedback obtained was encouraging. More automatic healing, less manual intervention, outstanding time savings, LimitState, a software specialist in the analysis of masonry arch bridges and geotechnical engineering, achieved reduced times from 5 hours to 25 seconds.

Polygonica's success is based on the same technology that underpins MachineWorks Simulation, which has had 17 years of industrial use in a demanding CAM environment.

You can learn more about Polygonica by attending Dr Fenqiang Lin's seminar about "Solutions for repairing defective STL polygons" on Tuesday, 29th November 2011, at 15:30 at Frankfurt Messe on Hall 11 Stand F68.
