Snohomish County PUD Rolls Out Intergraph® G/Technology 10

Washington Utilities Company Adopts G/Technology 10 to Further Smart Grid Initiatives

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 23, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — In summer 2011, the Snohomish Public Utility District (PUD) of Snohomish, Washington, USA, began implementation of Intergraph®'s G/Technology 10. The PUD will deploy the new system to approximately 100 mobile units, as well as 350 web access users. The PUD migrated to G/Technology 10 from its previous Intergraph FRAMME-based system. G/Technology 10 is based on Oracle's spatial data storage format and provides an open repository for all of PUD's spatial data. Included in this project are interfaces to SynerGEE® Network Modeling and Analysis and SAP applications.

Intergraph's G/Technology family is a multidimensional solution that provides powerful tools to support the facilities/asset management needs of utilities and communications companies.

Intergraph's new G/Technology 10 provides infrastructure management capabilities for utilities and communications companies and integrates them with operational support and service delivery. The new version expands enterprise capabilities to incorporate data from OGC®-standard web services and embraces industry-standard user management protocols. It also addresses customer requests for key workflow enhancements.

"Having the GIS data accessible to other applications, such as the distribution management system (DMS) and SAP applications, allows Snohomish PUD to use spatial data for both operational, as well as planning and analysis purposes, including dispatch, customer service, field operations and system planning and engineering," said Chris Heimgartner, Assistant General Manager, Distribution and Engineering, Snohomish PUD. "This is part of our strategy to provide spatial, location and asset data across the utility."

Benjamin Beberness, Assistant General Manager and CIO, Snohomish PUD, added, "The migration from FRAMME to G/Technology is an important first step toward providing a robust information technology infrastructure supporting the district's future smart grid initiatives."

"Intergraph is very pleased with the adoption of the latest version of G/Technology," says Hank DiPietro, Vice President of Utilities & Communications, Intergraph Corporation. "Unlike a standard GIS with limited support for an advanced distribution management system (ADMS), G/Technology 10 is explicitly designed to build and maintain a network model and helps support utilities and communications companies across the United States. Our customers, like Snohomish PUD, will benefit from G/Technology 10's standard use of Oracle to store geospatial information, as well as its powerful network management capabilities that are perfectly suited to support the emerging demands of an ADMS."
