„Kubotek KeyView is really fun to work with“ - Dr. Werner Moeller from Nord-Micro is pleased with his new CAD Viewer

January 26, 2012 - Among all EuroMold visitors that dropped their business card into the raffle box, K2D-KeyToData GmbH has drawn one license for Kubotek KeyView Premium. The lucky winner is Dr. Werner Moeller who works in the engineering department of Nord-Micro AG & Co. OHG. Nord-Micro is a supplier in the aerospace industry. Main customers are leading airplane manufacturers in Europe as well as in America.

The KeyView license was handed over to him in person by Thomas Berkmann, Kubotek KeyView Support. At the handover, he got an introduction into the new software - and was very impressed by the new CAD viewer.

The installation of the software itself already found his approval: “The installation is quick and easy. Trial installations of other products have taken up to 30 minutes until the setup was completed.” Besides, he saw a clear advantage in the new user interface in the look and feel of the current Microsoft Office products, because work can be done more intuitively.

"...saves a lot of time and many clicks compared to other tools."
First, he was shown the mouse functions that allow the user to quickly navigate through the program with just a few clicks. “It’s really fun to navigate with the mouse in KeyView”, Dr. Moeller is pleased. “It’s very easy to rotate, zoom and move the model. Zooming with the mouse wheel saves a lot of time and many clicks compared to other tools.”
He was also convinced by the DynaHandle through which parts can be moved easily: „Accurate positioning of the model is no longer a problem. Of course, it is also possible to freely move the model. But it is much faster and more accurate along the coordinate directions.”
He also found it very useful that there is an “automatic selection list“ that enables the user to select elements through the window (or other methods) selection. „It’s very convenient that you can still delete or add elements once the selection has been made.”
Dr. Moeller was especially taken with the possibility to undo tasks in Kubotek KeyView: “This is just great. I have been wishing for such an undo/redo function for my former viewer for a long time already. Now, I have it - in Kubotek KeyView.”

Analyzing & measuring: “…easier and more accurate than with my former viewer.”
Dr. Moeller was also impressed by the many functions for analyzing and measuring CAD models: “In my opinion, the section tools are better than in other CAD viewers I have seen - and multiple cuts are possible as well.” Besides, he also liked the possibility to save the section geometry for separate measurements. “And measuring of surfaces and surface distances with KeyView is much easier and more accurate than in my former viewer”, he was pleased, because this task is part of his daily work.

Different licensing forms
Kubotek KeyView offers a range of different licensing forms, from node-locked and USB license to a floating license. Dr. Moeller chose the USB license: “The diverse licensing forms make it easy for the user to select the right solution for his needs. For me, the USB license is the right choice because I work on two computers at the same time. Now, I can always use the USB-SIM on the computer on which I want to work with Kubotek KeyView at the moment. At home, I have a MAC - on this, I work with bootcamp in Windows 7 and this way, also with KeyView. Therefore, the USB license is just perfect for me.”

Kubotek KeyView at Nord-Micro AG & Co. OHG
After the KeyView training, Dr. Moeller spoke about how he will use Kubotek KeyView in his daily work:
As part of my job, I do mathematical analyses, in particular simulation of flow problems in and around the airplane. In order to carry out the analyses, 3D models are created that show the air space around the part to be calculated, so called air models. With these models, we simulate the flow chamber. Flow velocity, pressure and forces on the parts are calculated and used for strengths calculation. The models are created in different design offices with different CAD systems. Usually, we receive models in CATIA, ProEngineer, NX, Step, Parasolid and other formats. Before using the models, we have to view them, place sections, measure parts, etc. For this, we use a CAD viewer. Such a flexible tool as Kubotek KeyView can be of great support. Besides, KeyView can also be used for the documentation of the calculation results for reports. “
