OPEN MIND Technologies at Tire Technology Expo 2012: Efficient tyre mould programming with hyperMILL®

Wessling (Germany), 31 January 2012 – OPEN MIND Technologies AG is participating in Tire Technology Expo in Cologne, Germany. The software developer will demonstrate its CAD/CAM solutions for efficient manufacturing of tyre moulds at Stand 8390 from 14 to 16 February.

hyperMILL® is a modern programming platform that features high-performance 2D, 3D, and 5axis strategies for time-saving machining. All strategies are bundled in a single, intuitive user interface, which simplifies use and facilitates swift and transparent programming. OPEN MIND’s tyre package offers companies in the tyre industry an application for flexible and highly economic manufacturing of tyre moulds. Special functions and automations ensure that programs can be created for both moulds and models faster than ever before.

The hyperMILL® tyre module strategies are based on proven feature technology. This allows recurring machining sequences to be programmed far more quickly. Along with the assigned geometries, features contain all information relevant to production, such as top, bottom and start point. Characteristic geometries can be defined as special features and standard machining sequences saved to a macro database. Feature technology is available for machining jobs ranging from 2D up to 5axis tasks.

Flexible programming with the tyre clock

The tyre clock in hyperMILL® allows users to concentrate on programming individual pitches. The generated program is then automatically copied to the corresponding locations within the tyre mould segments. Depending on the profile and requirements, programming is performed either for a pitch or segment. Users can choose the method that best suits their purposes.

Fast and tool-friendly roughing

hyperMAXX®, the high-performance roughing strategy for hyperMILL®, enables particularly fast material removal and machine and tool-friendly machining by dynamically adjusting the feedrate to existing cutting conditions and ideally distributing milling paths. hyperMAXX® can be used for all tasks that might include ‘shelling’ roughing, pocketing, or machining with a tool shank.

5axis machining

hyperMILL® features several 5axis functions for fast, reliable and process-optimised tyre mould programming. These include 5axis top milling, 5axis swarf cutting, 5axis rest machining and 5axis contour machining.

5axis shape offset roughing and finishing machining allows curved surfaces to be machined with a consistent offset. This strategy enables easy programming of even highly complex geometries, such as frequently found in tyre moulds. hyperMAXX®, in combination with 5axis contour offset roughing, enables very fast finishing.
