Canon U.S.A. Announces Expanded Laser Printer Lineup with Two New imageRUNNER LBP Models

New Models Serve Small Offices, Enterprise Workgroups, and Complement Managed Document Services

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 2, 2012 — With the needs of small businesses, enterprise workgroups, and Managed Document Services in mind, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in imaging solutions, today announced the expansion of its printer lineup with the launch of two new laser printers. The Color imageRUNNER LBP5280 and the imageRUNNER LBP3480 each provide compact color and monochrome printing, respectively, while also delivering low energy use, excellent usability, ease of management, and exceptional integration with Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs.

Powerful and effective as standalone desktop printers, each model is designed to seamlessly integrate with and complement Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs workflow. Through a common tool set including imageWARE Enterprise Management Console, uniFLOW, and unified print drivers, small businesses, enterprise workgroups and Managed Document Services customers and providers can create a cohesive, consistent, and easily managed printing solution. Utilizing MEAP - Canon’s pioneering application platform - the two new models extend the value of customers’ investments by bringing MFP workflows to the desktop printer. The first of several MEAP applications for the models will be uniFLOW, allowing users to easily release secured print jobs from the highly flexible uniFLOW document output server without the need for release station hardware.

“The economy has driven companies to be flexible and to invest intelligently in printing solutions that save time, energy and money,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Marketing, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. “The newest additions to the imageRUNNER lineup have been developed with these needs in mind, and bring a small-format, low-cost device with advanced features that fit into practically every printing workflow.”

The Color imageRUNNER LBP5280 and the imageRUNNER LBP348 fully supports imageWARE Remote and Canon’s innovative Content Delivery System. imageWARE Remote, Canon’s eMaintenance solution, allows Canon Authorized Dealers to proactively and securely monitor usage, relay status, and even report errors, saving customers valuable time and resources. The Content Delivery System allows service providers to deliver remote firmware and software updates to customers with limited or no business interruption. The standard DeviceLink integration can also automatically route inbound faxes from an imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFP to the new printer models, making receiving faxes both more convenient and secure, while cutting costs by reducing the number of fax lines an organization needs. The combination of these management and collaboration tools, combined with MEAP technology, brings advanced MFP solutions and features to a small-format desktop printer.

Ease of Use and Convenience

To increase ease of use and simplify operation for general users, the two new printers are equipped with a 5-line LCD. The panel features on-screen navigation with a scrolling display to facilitate device use as well as animations to help guide operations. The aforementioned imageWARE Remote, CDS, and Device Link streamline usage for administrators and users alike. For added convenience, both models include popular features from the imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs lineup including: USB Direct Print, allowing users to print documents from a USB drive without a computer; and Encrypted Secured Print, enabled with the optional SD Card. The optional SD card also enables Mail Box storage for frequently used jobs and Email Printing, allowing a user to simply send an email to the printer to print the message and supported attached files.

Low Environmental Impact

Although the new devices are a powerful and productive addition to any printer fleet, they can also help support customers’ environmental goals. The Color imageRUNNER LBP5280 and imageRUNNER LBP3480 desktop printers follow Canon’s environmentally conscious design philosophy and offer class-leading low energy usage, meeting all ENERGY STAR and RoHS requirements through the eco-conscious design. Canon’s patented RAPID Fusing Technology is employed for fast warm-up, and each model uses a very low 1W of power in sleep mode. Beyond these energy-saving features each model avoids hazardous substances in the manufacturing process and uses plant-based bioplastic for certain parts. Canon also provides free return of spent toner cartridges to its state-of-the-art, zero landfill cartridge recycling facility.
