WHY:

Shutting down a rig for training purposes is not an option for organizations today which leaves owners and operators in the unenviable task of relying on paper-based school room training or expensive, custom-built practice environments.  Both of these strategies come with prohibitive effectiveness and cost inefficiencies. In this presentation, Dassault Systèmes’ Harry Daglas will describe how the convergence of Virtual Reality, systems simulation and plant lifecycle management (PLM) technologies can optimize training programs for offshore rigs.

Offshore oil rig engineers face ever-present danger. In emergencies, it is critical that each employee know exactly where critical equipment is and where he or she should be in any given situation. Organizations that combine virtual reality, systems simulation and PLM are able to replicate these adrenaline-pumping moments within a safe environment.  Unlike classrooms or practice rigs, organizations can update virtual environments using engineering data so employees’ training is concurrent with the latest technologies and best practices. Attendees will learn how the synchronization of virtual reality, systems simulation and PLM technologies can create an effective, cost-efficient environment to train employees throughout the organization rather than on a rig-by-rig basis.

This presentation will discuss:

·         The benefits of integrating virtual reality, systems simulation and PLM systems as they relate to training employees;

·         The importance of imposing a uniform, organization-wide training program that does not rely on paper-based materials;

·         Data management’s underappreciated role in training programs and how it can be used as a means to enhance the experience for employees;

·         Best practices based on Dassault Systèmes’ experience with some of the world’s largest companies.
