AEC Wake-Up Call: Digital Signatures and Seals Report Provides Pathway to Savings

Austin, TX, May 15, 2012 — "Wake up, architecture, engineering, and construction firms!" So begins the new publication from Fiatech, A Practical Deployment Strategy for Digital Signatures and Seals in Fully Electronic AEC Processes. The report focuses on new industry-wide efforts to streamline business processes and increase efficiency through the use of digital seals and signatures.

Digital signature technology is quickly becoming a critical element of business process automation. Compiled by a subcommittee of the Fiatech Regulatory Streamlining Committee, Fiatech's new publication describes how simple it is to apply digital signatures to help accomplish streamlining and increase productivity. The target audience for the report includes solutions providers, design firms, and other organizations in the capital projects delivery industry.

An educational primer as well as a strategy guide, the publication outlines the problems associated with wet-signing as the status quo. It also provides compelling reasons to adopt a standard digital approach as an alternative to the current print-scan-mail workflow that prolongs high inefficiencies and unnecessary expenditures for stakeholders. In addition, the report discusses the many benefits of deploying digital signatures and seals, including cost avoidance and expedited project delivery. In the strategy portion of the publication, seven elements of the technology are outlined for AEC firms to consider before and during signature automation.

Practical, standard, and scalable digital signature deployment strategies are urgently needed. Wide deployment will allow the global AEC industry to take a critical step away from paper-intensive overhead in business processes.

The publication is intended to support architects, engineers, construction personnel, and AEC industry regulatory bodies in gaining an increased understanding of how digital signatures can benefit diverse work environments.
