TIROne Technologies Geo-Enables Oil & Gas Exploration Services Using Esri Technology

Integrating Spatial Intelligence into Business Processes and Solutions Increases Efficiency and Safety

Victoria, BC, Esri Canada User Conference – June 5, 2012 – Many factors contribute to successful oil and gas exploration, including conducting accurate seismic surveys, precise drilling, effective workforce management and achieving regulatory compliance. To effectively support these, TIROne Technologies, a seismic services provider, integrated spatial intelligence into their internal workflows and customer solutions using Esri's enterprise geographic information system (GIS) technology. This has significantly increased the efficiency and safety of their operations. Esri Canada presented an Award of Excellence to TIROne today for this outstanding GIS application.

“Knowing where and when to drill involves analyzing numerous data such as variable weather and ground conditions, locations of workers and equipment, as well as government permits and worker certifications," observed Alex Miller, president, Esri Canada. "Being able to track these and disseminate the data across the organization and to customers in real time allows for decisions to be made quickly, and with more intelligence and conviction. In geo-enabling their business and solutions, TIROne ensures that data is effectively leveraged to achieve productive, safe and successful operations.”

TIROne solutions help oil and gas companies improve every aspect of the exploration cycle, including identifying government regulation and requirements, obtaining exploration permits, as well as selecting and managing field crews in conducting seismic surveys. The company also provides a Web-based platform solution for storing all data related to people, processes and technologies used in a project. They supported their operations previously with paper maps generated through their computer-aided drafting (CAD) system, which lacked spatial mapping and analysis capabilities. Recognizing the need for a more efficient system to manage their data, TIROne deployed Esri's ArcGIS technology in 2011.

Since then, the company has integrated GIS into their production, billing, reporting and tracking processes. They now support seismic planning projects with a Web map viewer that provides easy access to critical data. They have also deployed ArcGIS for SharePoint to enable staff in the office and the field to leverage on-demand mapping capabilities and enterprise data.

“GIS breathes life into business data,” says Will Wolodko, CEO, TIROne. “The visual aspect that maps provide allows users to better understand information. Also, the insight obtained from combining spatial and business data is remarkable; it's like having the lights turned on. Perhaps one of the most significant efficiencies we've gained from GIS is in increasing worker safety. During an emergency, not only are we able to reduce drive times to the site through better routing, but we're also able to provide the appropriate treatment immediately as a result of having all critical incident data on hand.”
