TatukGIS Editor 4 with Raster/Vector Layer Rectification

June 12, 2012 -- The TatukGIS Editor version 4 has been released with features to rectify, georeference, and mosaic raster and vector map layers. The vector support is ideal for rectifying CAD drawings (with an unknown coordinate system) to a selected coordinate system or correcting old vector layers to match a new orthophoto.

  • Rectification is performed on-the-fly (similar to on-the-fly reprojection of map layers between coordinate systems), so the rectified result is instantaneously visible.
  • Rectification reflects the Editor's state-of-the-art coordinate system support with 3,000 pre-defined coordinate systems.
  • The rectification/georeferencing/mosaicing functionality can be customized with scripts, such as to create labor saving routines for repetitive procedures.
  • TatukGIS PixelStore (SQL) format support for huge raster mosaics.

The rectification calculation reflects 1st, 2nd, and 3rd order polynomial transformations. The 1st order transformation uses information from 3 ground control points to scale and rotate the layer. The 2nd and 3rd
order transformations use information from 6 or 10 control points to perform nonlinear transformations to correct more complex distortions. An Editor 4 product update will add an alternative “rubber sheeting” rectification method that uses an unlimited number of control points to perform the rectification
calculation.

The Editor 4 upgrade is available for free to customers with active license maintenance. A trial version for evaluators is available from the TatukGIS web site.

The TatukGIS Editor is a general purpose desktop GIS application that is both powerful and user friendly. The default user interface and features are fully customizable with built-in scripting tools which expose an extensive object API.
