Esri Canada Partner PCI Geomatics Wins YTA Technology Leadership Award

PCI Named Company of the Year for Business Excellence and Innovation in Developing Geographic Imaging Solutions

TORONTO – June 21, 2012 – Esri Canada congratulates PCI Geomatics for being named Company of the Year at the recent York Technology Association (YTA) Leadership Awards event. A longstanding Esri Business Partner, PCI designs and develops geographic image processing software and systems, including GeoImaging Tools for ArcGIS, a suite of tools for processing and analyzing imagery in Esri's geographic information system (GIS) solution. PCI was selected by an independent committee as the winner among three finalists for the Company of the Year Award, and was recognized by the YTA for building a successful business and becoming a true leader in their sector.

“PCI has set the standard of excellence in remote sensing and geo-imaging with their scalable, high speed and automated image processing software,” said John Kitchen, Esri Canada Vice President and General Manager, and YTA Chair. “Their innovative solutions help customers turn images into useful information in support of numerous location-critical applications. With their strong business and technical capabilities, PCI is well-positioned for even greater success as data volumes and the use of imagery in geospatial workflows increase.”

“We're honoured to be selected as YTA's Company of the Year,” said Terry Moloney, President and CEO, PCI Geomatics. “This award provides recognition for the excellent work of our employees and confirms that our company is effectively responding to market requirements. It inspires us to continue developing innovative solutions and offering industry-leading tools that enable our customers to automatically and cost-effectively process imagery – providing them the ability to focus on extracting critical scientific and business information.”

PCI advanced many strategic initiatives over the past year including implementing its GeoImaging Accelerator (GXL) system on the cloud in support of Esri's global imagery basemap project. The project involves processing and uploading 50 million square kilometers of high-resolution satellite imagery to Esri's ArcGIS Online platform, through which the public can access the free World Imagery basemap. Using GXL, Esri is able to process over 90 terabytes of imagery per month.

The company also released Geomatica 2012, an integrated desktop software package that provides tools for remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, geospatial analysis, map production and mosaicking. The solution allows users to leverage imagery in a broad range of industry applications including the environment, agriculture, defence and oil and gas. In partnership with the University of New Brunswick, PCI also implemented new, advanced pan-sharpening algorithms into its products that enable the rapid fusion and correction of satellite imagery, and make remote sensing imagery look more like traditional aerial photography. In recognition of their work, PCI was presented with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's prestigious Synergy Award for Innovation by the Governor General of Canada in a ceremony held at Rideau Hall.
