Fort Worth Expands Use of Accela Automation to Include Land Management and Business Licensing Capabilities

FORT WORTH, TX -- (Marketwire) -- Jun 26, 2012 -- Accela, Inc. announced today that the City of Fort Worth, Texas, has selected Accela Automation® to help automate and manage building permits and inspections, and business licensing for Tarrant, Denton and Wise counties. The City is scheduled to implement the new web solution by April 2013. Serving nearly three-quarters of a million residents, Fort Worth is looking for ways to gain efficiency in routine tasks, raise service quality, and support its growing business community. The City's population has grown roughly 40 percent in the past 10 years and is projected to continue expanding to more than 1.2 million residents by 2030.

Fort Worth's Planning and Development Department and its Fire Department will soon benefit from Accela Automation's numerous advanced capabilities. Chartered with promoting orderly growth and development, safe construction, and neighborhood vitality, the Planning and Development Department oversees a broad mandate, with oversight for annexation, transportation planning, historic preservation, plan reviews, zoning, permitting, ordinances and construction codes, contractor registration, and much more. The Department also manages planning, zoning and permitting for gas well drilling and pipelines in the city.

Accela Automation will provide an online portal to facilitate new workflows between city departments, open up digital communication channels with residents and businesses, and enable faster completion of multi-step permitting, plan review, and licensing processes. GIS mapping capability will make it easy for permit and parcel information to be viewed geospatially by both office- and field-based workers. The companion Accela Citizen Access™ software will provide functionality for building owners, contractors, and other businesses to apply for permits or licenses online and track progress electronically, saving them trips to city offices. Fort Worth also will use Accela Mobile Office™ to give inspectors in the community access to digital files and GIS maps from their mobile devices, boosting productivity by enabling real-time updates and giving back-office workers visibility into progress on job sites.
