AMT Technical Director Tim Shinbara Selected for National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute Executive Committee

19 November 2012 - McLean, Va. … The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII) has selected Tim Shinbara, Technical Director at AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology, as a member of its Executive Committee. NAMII is a public-private partnership whose membership includes entities from industry, academia, government, and workforce development, all with the goal of transitioning additive manufacturing technology to the mainstream U.S. manufacturing industry.

The Executive Committee is tasked with several tasks, including developing criteria for selecting the projects that NAMII would support. The committee also will develop the process of calling for and discovering new projects, as well as working to support the NAMII Director.

“It is an honor to receive a position on the Executive Committee and to be recognized by a group of my peers within the additive community,” Shinbara said. “It will be challenging as this has some unprecedented and significant private-public partnership elements. This is a great opportunity to be a steward of technology development and commercialization in order to better support the U.S. manufacturing industry.”

“We see technology centers like NAMII being a key component in strengthening U.S. manufacturing from a collaborative standpoint,” said Douglas K. Woods, President, AMT. “As outlined in AMT’s Manufacturing Mandate, this is exactly the kind of focus on innovation and rapid commercialization of technologies that can drive our industry for decades to come.

“Tim’s background in manufacturing technology, and specifically additive, puts him in a perfect position to not only support the center, but also collaborate and coordinate with AMT’s growing additive manufacturing technology members,” Woods said.

Shinbara has a background working in manufacturing technology R&D in the aerospace and defense industries and involvement in government contractual R&D to support programs for the F/A-18, F-35, GlobalHawk, and others. His role at AMT is to research and compile technology trends and help member companies find ways that they can utilize these technologies to grow their businesses.

AMT looks forward to Shinbara’s inclusion on the committee and its work to promote the additive manufacturing industry.
