Video: Release of Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 Leverages Spatial 3D Components

Popular CAD/CAM Software Combines User Productivity with Expanded Synchronization and Simulation Functionality

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 20, 2013 — Spatial Corp, the leading provider of 3D development components for design, manufacturing and engineering applications, has joined CNC Software Inc. to announce that 3D ACIS Modeler and 3D InterOp are helping to power the latest release of Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012. Designed to control a variety of Swiss-style NC machines, Mastercam Swiss Expert is popular in a range of applications such as watch-making, medical device, dental, automotive, and electronics companies — all known for the requirement of extremely small but very precise parts.

Because Mastercam Swiss Expert is a solids based toolset, CNC Software looked to 3D ACIS Modeler from Spatial Corp to provide the component technology required to deliver a high performing modeling kernel. In addition, leveraging 3D InterOp for data interoperability simplified support for standard and native CAD file formats including SAT, IGES, STEP, Parasolid, Creo, NX, SolidWorks, CATIA V4, and CATIA V5. By leveraging the expertise of Spatial for both 3D geometric modeling and data reuse, CNC Software is better able to focus their development resources on the specific requirements of their users and the need to deliver a streamlined programming method, from tool paths to synchronization to simulation.

Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 includes features to simplify synchronization. This includes the ability to view all machining parameters and modify them on the fly if necessary, expand and contract the timeline for trouble-free viewing of the part process, and use of colors to help identify which tool paths belong to which tool group. To improve user productivity and to reduce cost, Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 lets users fully and safely simulate their project on a virtual machine before it reaches the shop floor. This is enabled by full simulation of every moving component of the machine, including material, main and sub spindles, all tool holders, and part handling devices. Accurate machine models allow you to be confident in the representation of machining processes. Automatic collision detection enables users to catch collisions in a virtual environment before damaging expensive equipment.

“The ability for CNC Software to deliver the comprehensive functionality in Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 is an excellent example of the power of the Spatial component platform,” explained Ray Bagley, Director Product Planning and Management for Spatial. “CNC Software has been able to extend their position as a market leader by devoting the lion’s share of their development resources specifically on the needs of their user community and not on reinventing and optimizing data translation and modeling capabilities.”

“The support we have received from Spatial as we brought Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 to market has been great,” states Gary Hargreaves, Vice President of Business Development for CNC. “Our developers have been able to get timely answers to questions and the guidance we received while implementing the new release of the 3D ACIS Modeler allowed us to move forward without delay while the upgrade of 3D InterOp gives us the ability to accurately read in models from our customers.”
