Esri and DigitalGlobe Expand World Imagery Map

10 Million Square Kilometers of Imagery Added to ArcGIS Basemap Service

Redlands, California— February 25, 2013—Esri and DigitalGlobe recently updated the ArcGIS  World Imagery basemap service with more than 10 million square kilometers of high-resolution aerial views. The World Imagery map is a free map service for ArcGIS users that contains quality contributions from Esri partners and the global GIS community.  The World Imagery Map is one of several useful basemap services freely accessible through  ArcGIS Online.

The new update includes 30 cm imagery for the continental United States down to 1:1,000 scale, and 60 cm imagery for large parts of Western Europe down to 1:2,000 scale. Throughout 2013, Esri and DigitalGlobe will grow the map with more than 100 million square kilometers of updated high-quality imagery, making it one of the most detailed free basemap services available.

“We are excited to offer our users over 100 million sq km of new imagery at resolutions of 30 cm for the US and 60 cm for Europe,” says Christophe Charpentier, Esri’s Group Product Manager for ArcGIS Content.  “This is a breakthrough improvement thanks to our partnership with DigitalGlobe that allows our customers access up-to-date and powerful global imagery.”

To access the World Imagery map, go to the basemap gallery in your ArcGIS application and click on Imagery or Imagery with Labels.
