ClariPhy Achieves #1 Position in Merchant Coherent Optical SoCs

ANAHEIM, CA -- (Marketwire) -- Mar 17, 2013 -- ClariPhy Communications, Inc., a leading developer of ultra-high speed mixed signal systems on chip (SoCs) for coherent optical networks, announced today that it has shipped over 11,000 units of its LightSpeed™ 40 gigabit per second (40G) coherent SoCs into applications spanning long haul, regional, metro, and submarine networks. ClariPhy believes this is the highest volume of coherent merchant silicon shipped by any supplier over all data rates.

Telecom carriers worldwide face a surge in bandwidth requirements driven by cloud computing, IPTV, streaming HD video and an explosive growth in data intensive smart phone applications. These carriers are rapidly transitioning to coherent technology because of its ease of deployment (lowering both CAPEX and OPEX), high fiber capacity, and seamless upgradeability to next generation terabit solutions. ClariPhy's LightSpeed coherent SoCs address the industry's insatiable demand for bandwidth with low power, cost effective solutions that can be rapidly deployed in high volume.

ClariPhy was the first merchant silicon supplier to deliver a single chip, fully integrated coherent SoC, and is the only supplier with the complete IP portfolio of mixed signal and DSP technology required for multi-mode, multi-rate coherent solutions. Its LightSpeed SoCs are deployed in multiple and diverse networks worldwide because of their scalable architecture, ability to customize to an application, and DSP performance. Network applications range from submarine to long haul to metro, where LightSpeed SoCs compensate for cross phase modulation (XPM) and enable deployment on existing 10G links.

"The transition to coherent technology was slower than operators expected due to a limited supplier base and constrained capacity. ClariPhy's single chip integration provided a platform to deliver low power and cost and thereby support volume coherent deployments. Ovum finds coherent has quickly gone from introductory to mainstream; it forecasts a nearly 40% volume compounded annual growth rate for 40G and 100G from 2012 to 2017 reflecting wide spread technology acceptance," said Daryl Inniss, VP and Practice Leader for Components.

ClariPhy recently announced the industry's first demonstration of the key mixed signal building blocks for 100G coherent SoCs in 28nm CMOS technology, reinforcing its leadership position and its commitment to bringing scalable high volume, cost and power effective solutions to the coherent optical networking market.
