Toshiba Launches Ultra Small, 1.12 Micrometer, Full HD CMOS Image Sensor

Company Continues to Prove Expertise in Device Miniaturization to Drive High-Performance, Ultra-Thin Consumer Electronic Devices

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 10, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —   Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today launches its new T4K71 1080p full HD resolution CMOS image sensor with 1.12 micrometer pixel, backside illumination (BSI), and integrated color noise reduction (CNR). Toshiba once again proves its expertise in device and camera module miniaturization enabling customers to continue developing high-performance, ultra-thin smartphones and tablet PCs.

"Our customers keep asking for smaller devices to support their next generation, slim designs," says Andrew Burt, vice president of the Analog and Imaging Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "To that end, Toshiba has leveraged its new advanced process to create a smaller, 1.12 micrometer pixel, image sensor with the same performance as a 1.4 micrometer pixel counterpart. Customers can be confident that Toshiba is committed to making continuous and innovative enhancements to its systems offering, especially for the camera and imaging markets."

The integration of both BSI and CNR achieves a signal to noise ratio (SNR) equal to Toshiba's existing 1.4 micrometer CMOS image sensor. The new, smaller T4K71 delivers a high speed frame rate of 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps) which is essential for smooth, continuous recording of high-definition video. Other key specifications include 2 mega pixel resolution, 1/7.3 inch optical size and an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Pricing and Availability
Sample pricing for the T4K71 CMOS image sensor is $8.00 (U.S.).  Samples will be available by the end of April 2013, with mass production scheduled to begin in September 2013.
