JATCO Selects PTC for Global Software Development

PTC Solution to centrally manage data and processes, improve collaboration across distributed teams

NEEDHAM, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 16, 2013 — PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC) today announced that JATCO, a Nissan subsidiary and global supplier of Automatic Transmissions and Continuously Variable Transmissions (AT/CVT), has selected the PTC Global Software Development solution as the single software engineering platform for its transmission control systems.

As products become more software intensive, complexity increases, creating multiple challenges for many of today’s manufacturers, including JATCO. Software is an important component of JATCO’s transmission control systems, helping to drive innovation, improve product capabilities, and enable more efficient product variation.

For JATCO, the challenge of increasing product complexity was further compounded by the fact that there was no mechanism for data management, information sharing, and collaboration among product development organizations in Japan, Asia, North America and other locations around the world. Because requirements, models, and test data were managed with a variety of disparate tools, it was time consuming for team members to access relevant product development data, delaying communication and thus negatively impacting overall productivity. Additionally, variant and modification history were not centrally captured, resulting in inefficiencies and rework across product lines.

JATCO quickly recognized the need to implement a single solution for managing all activities and assets across development disciplines and geographic boundaries to improve engineering process efficiency and drive more effective use of engineering assets. JATCO selected the PTC Global Development solution based on PTC Integrity to centrally manage data while maintaining the links between data, standardizing deliverables management and strengthening its change management processes.

“To achieve our vision to support collaborative development operations, we needed a single, system to manage all product development data and business processes,” said Seiichiro Kobe, General Manager, Management Information System Department, JATCO. “Using PTC Solutions will enable us to have complete visibility throughout the product development lifecycle to better manage the control system development data, minimize data security risks, improve process efficiencies and increase the productivity of our distributed teams.”

PTC Global Software Development optimizes key processes, and connects all software engineering artifacts, including requirements, models, code, and test information, ensuring comprehensive lifecycle traceability. By providing complete visibility into product development, team productivity is improved and real-time collaboration across disciplines is enabled, ultimately reducing development costs by eliminating redundancies and rework. PTC Integrity was recognized as a leading application lifecycle management solution in a recent report from Forrester Research Inc., The Forrester Wave™: Application Life-Cycle Management, Q4 2012.

“Manufacturers striving to develop software-intensive products face additional challenges as they work to deliver high levels of innovation and flexibility in shorter cycles, at the lowest cost and the highest quality,” said Jake Simpson, Divisional General Manager, ALM Segment, PTC. “We are pleased with JATCO’s selection of PTC Global Software Development to help solve those challenges and look forward to working with JATCO to improve its development and engineering processes to drive greater value to its customers.”
