SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- May 20, 2013 -- QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK)

  • Complete, ready-to-use parallel Camera Interface solution (CAM I/F)
  • Enables developers to take advantage of extensive Android ecosystem
  • Supports BeagleBone open source hardware platform and QuickLogic Camera Cape

QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the innovator of ultra-low-power programmable Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), today announced that its Parallel Camera Interface ( CAM I/F) for Sitara™ AM335x ARM® Cortex™-A8 processors from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) now supports the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Operating System (OS). Now developers can easily integrate QuickLogic's catalog CSSP-based turnkey CAM I/F solution for TI's Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex- A8 processors into Android-based platforms.

According to a market study conducted by UBM Tech, the Android OS has jumped to the top position for open operating systems used by embedded developers. This adoption is being driven by extensive use of the Android OS in the highly fragmented enterprise space for applications such as retail, home automation, education and healthcare.

"The addition of Android OS support to QuickLogic's CAM I/F solution provides the next step in the evolution of QuickLogic's camera catalog CSSP products," said Mehul Kochar, senior business development manager for QuickLogic. "Our CAM I/F solution provides an off-the-shelf solution for the diverse enterprise market and enables customers to expand their served available markets, reduce their BOM and shorten their design cycles."

TI provides an Android development kit, which supports the BeagleBone platform, LCD7 cape and camera cape for faster development and easy integration. BeagleBone is a ready-to-use, open-source hardware platform for rapid prototyping and firmware and software development from BeagleBoard.org. BeagleBone is highly extensible, allowing developers to add many features and interfaces via add-on boards or capes. The camera cape, including the QuickLogic CSSP, connects to a BeagleBone and an Aptina image sensor.
