Mentor Graphics Accelerates Verification with Emulation-Ready Verification IP for MIPI Products

WILSONVILLE, Ore. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 19, 2013Mentor Graphics Corp. (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced MIPI-protocol verification IP (VIP) for use with their latest-generation Veloce® hardware emulation platform. This allows engineers to exhaustively stress test a device-under-test (DUT) that includes one or more MIPI protocol interfaces on their SoC, and run verification cycles at orders of magnitude faster than simulation.

The MIPI VIP enables the use of stimuli generated by modern simulation testbenches, including SystemVerilog/UVM, and SystemC-based environments, and applies them to a MIPI-based, design-under-test (DUT) running in the Veloce emulator. Since the connection between the testbench and the VIP is at a transaction-level rather than signal interface, a high level of performance is delivered.

The new VIP supports users of the MIPI camera and display-based protocols, CSI and DSI, and is compatible with the Questa® functional verification platform as well as the Veloce hardware emulation platform.

Emulation-Ready VIP Delivers Productivity

Emulation-ready VIP is used as an essential part of the strategy for verifying SoCs containing multiple protocol interfaces on chip. Users can develop testbenches in one of several supported high-level verification (HVL) environments, and then seamlessly interchange between RTL verification and acceleration. This delivers an effective and productive environment to develop new, leading-edge SoCs and accelerate delivery schedules.

“Mentor continues to lead in the delivery of accelerated, transaction-based solutions for the verification of SoCs,” said Eric Selosse, vice president and general manager, Mentor Emulation Division. “This leadership is further enhanced by the new generation of plug-and-play MIPI protocol solutions delivered with our verification IP portfolio, which are successfully deployed at world-leading electronics companies. With the addition of MIPI VIP, Mentor strengthens its position as the premier vendor for hardware and software emulation solutions for mobile multimedia, networking, wireless, and storage applications.”

The new MIPI VIP solutions deliver use modes with traditional, in-circuit emulation (ICE) and high-performance, transaction-based verification or acceleration. When combined with the Questa functional verification platform and the Veloce2 emulator, the MIPI VIP delivers high-performance and easy-to-use system verification solutions for developing SoCs containing MIPI devices, without compromising delivery schedules. The solutions are available for deployment at customer sites effective immediately.

The Veloce2 emulator is a high-performance, dual-mode accelerator/emulator, delivering twice the performance and capacity of previous generations for both transaction-based verification and traditional in-circuit emulation (ICE). With an extensive portfolio of vertical market solutions, the Veloce2 emulator is the platform of choice for networking, wireless, multimedia, storage, and embedded systems applications.
