Moldex3D Releases Enhanced FEA Interface with Abaqus

Users of Moldex3D’s FEA Interface with Abaqus Now Can Transfer the Complete Material Property Data to Abaqus for a More Precise Structural Analysis

Hsinchu, Taiwan, July 10, 2013 –CoreTech System Co., Ltd. (Moldex3D), the true 3D CAE simulation solution innovator for plastic injection molding, announced today the release of an enhanced version of Moldex3D FEA Interface with Abaqus. Users of Moldex3D’s FEA Interface with Abaqus now can transfer the complete material property data without performing material reduction to Abaqus for a more precise structural analysis. This powerful enhanced tool not only empowers users of Moldex3D and Abaqus to experience a stronger and further improved integration between the two leading programs, but also helps accelerate work efficiency and provides precise, accurate simulation results.

Due to the memory and CPU computing time limitation, users of FEA Interface with Abaqus would need to reduce the number of material properties prior to transferring molding simulation data into Abaqus in the past. As a result, the simulation results in Abaqus might be compromised since the data transmitted only reflected molding analysis results partially. With the enhanced FEA Interface in Moldex3D R12, users can now take the complete anisotropic material properties of a plastic injection molded part into full account for Abaqus stress analysis. Consequently, users no longer need to overcompensate for the accuracy in simulation results caused by material data reduction. They can transfer the complete data that reflects the complete material properties of a part into Abaqus with ease in order to obtain the most precise and accurate simulation results.

Additionally, the enhanced FEA Interface helps create a more efficient and productive workflow by saving CPU computing time and memory usage enormously. For instance, it would take more than 20 hours for Abaqus to finish importing and computing a complex model which consists of about 1 million elements of complete fiber orientation information. In contrast, with the Moldex3D enhanced FEA interface, it can obtain results in merely 30 minutes. That is to say, in the same given period of time, this acceleration enables Moldex3D and Abaqus’ joint users to perform more analysis iterations for predicting potential issues and optimizing product design.

Dennis Corain, Director of SIMULIA Alliances said “We fully support Moldex3D’s endeavor in improving efficiency and productivity of transferring process-induced properties, such as fiber orientation and residual stress, into Abaqus for optimizing the structural reliability of injection-molded plastic parts. Our joint customers can now get more accurate and precise simulation results with the new ability for Moldex3D to directly translate the mesh and material properties of whole plastic parts into Abaqus.”

Dr Venny Yang, President of CoreTech System (Moldex3D) stated, “With our collaboration with SIMULIA, we were able to achieve a tremendous breakthrough in Moldex3D FEA Interface with Abaqus by reducing computing time and lowering memory usage needed for performing integrated analyses. Now, we are also able to provide a mean to transfer the complete material properties of the injection-molded parts into Abaqus to make a full structural analysis feasible. Ultimately, we’re addressing two major challenges in today’s competitive business environment: product quality and time-to-market. We strive to help our users deliver high quality products and speed up products’ time-to-market as we know these are two crucial factors to achieve the ultimate success.”
