New Toshiba Three-Phase Brushless Motor Driver IC Packs High Efficiency In Small Package

Device Enables Quiet Operation and Energy Savings for Home Appliance Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 31, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —   Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today launches a highly integrated, sine-wave driver IC ( Part Number TB6585AFTG) for implementation in three-phase DC brushless motors used in fan motors of home appliances. The device enables quiet operation, low vibration, and low-power consumption for ventilation and electric fans typically used in range hoods, microwave ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, and more.

"This newest addition to the Toshiba motor control driver line up once again proves the company's design expertise and technical innovation that continues to deliver integration and packaging benefits not only for industrial and commercial applications, but also consumer applications as well," says Andrew Burt, vice president of the Analog and Imaging Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC.

The integrated Pulse Width Modulation1 (PWM) controller circuit of the TB6585AFTG driver IC generates a sine wave, to achieve a quiet, smooth, and very efficient motor drive for brushless motor applications of up to 45V/1.8A requirements. It is a highly integrated motor control IC with motor control logic, MOSFET predrivers, and six high-performance MOSFETs. The TB6585AFTG employs a compact, leadless, thermally efficient QFN48 7mm x 7mm package with an assembly bonding technique that improves the current handling capability by 45 percent over the previous version of the device. The product is also offered in a larger HSOP36 package—Part Number TB6585FG.

Pricing and Availability
One piece sample pricing for the TB6585AFTG is $3.00 (U.S.).  Mass production is scheduled to being in July 2013.
