RedEye Launches Free iPad App

The re-designed app offers a much improved consumer experience

CHICAGO, Aug. 14, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  RedEye, Chicago's dynamic multi-platform media brand known for its to-the-point take on news and entertainment, announces today the re-launch of its tablet application. RedEye's iPad edition is now a free, weekly digital magazine available for download via the Apple store every Wednesday.

This vivid weekly tablet edition curates the best of RedEye's coverage in news, music, movies, TV, celebs, and the Chicago bar and restaurant scene. The interactive, award-winning design (no, really, it won the Mag+ Magnify Your World iPad Design Award for Editorial in 2012) contains more detailed content in a magazine format for a deeper, more leisurely read.

As research indicated user engagement to be at its peak in the middle of the week, each Wednesday issue will preview the upcoming weekend, while recapping the biggest news stories over the past week.

"RedEye is constantly reinventing itself to fulfill the needs of each reader on every platform," said Tran Ha, interim general manager of RedEye/Metromix. "We've learned a lot about when, why, and how our iPad readers interact with the app, and have made improvements."

The application was first introduced in March 2012, with daily issues available for download on a subscription basis. Under this model, RedEye became the first local daily newspaper to design an interactive experience tailored exclusively for the iPad environment.

The new iPad edition joins the robust consumer and advertiser offerings including the daily print newspaper for the urban commuter, redeyechicago.com, and a free user-friendly iPhone and android app. RedEye has grown to become a vibrant Chicago media leader, celebrating its 10th anniversary last October.
