Edgecam, WorkNC and Surfcam Combine at EMO

August 15, 2013

CNC software specialists WorkNC and SURFCAM will be joining Edgecam at EMO to exhibit under the Vero banner in Germany for the first time.

Vero has two booths at the show in Hannover between September 16 and 21: K12 in Hall 25 featuring Edgecam along with Sescoi brands WorkNC, WorkPLAN and WorkXPlore 3D, while SURFCAM and its German reseller 3D Concepts will highlight the upcoming release of SURFCAM 2014 R1, on booth H42.

EDGECAM
Edgecam and its reseller Camtech, will demonstrate the new game-changing Workflow application introduced in the latest version, 2013 R2.

The new functionality enables CAD/CAM engineers to apply toolpaths within seconds, by aiding in loading and positioning the component, choosing the manufacturing method and suitable machine tools, adding user defined stock or stock from a database, importing fixtures, selecting a machine and toolkit, and managing strategies to automate manufacture.

As well as the new Workflow, Camtech will be demonstrating a number of other powerful items of new and enhanced functionality in the latest Edgecam release, including modern redesign of dialogs, four-turret support, free loading of CAD files into Part Modeler, quicker simulation, and improvements to the Wire EDM Feature Finder.

Edgecam is also setting up a Genius Bar on its stand to give visitors their own face-to-face time with both English and German speaking experts. General Manager Raf Lobato says: “EMO is the key exhibition for the metalworking industry across Europe, and is ideal for visitors to see for themselves how they can benefit from producing programs much faster than if they were using more conventional CAM systems. So book a Genius Bar appointment to avoid the rush and get quality time to see a demonstration of Workflow by registering here: http://www.edgecam.com/emo-registration.”

WorkNC
Visitors will learn that Vero is continuing to invest in the WorkNC product suite following its acquisition of Sescoi earlier this year. Sescoi General Manager Simon Lee says: “Customers will see Vero’s new branding, and we can reassure them that WorkNC, WorkPLAN and WorkXPlore 3D, will continue to develop as a premier software solution for mould, die and tooling businesses for 2 to 5-axis CNC programming.”

The latest release, WorkNC V22, will be on display, featuring new finishing toolpaths, along with a host of improvement to existing toolpaths. Morphing and spiral transition options, along with improved toolpath point distribution management, all contribute to ensure optimal surface finish quality, as well as reduced cycle times.

Creating a Machine Context optimizes management of the production environment. This groups together all relevant machine configuration elements required by the different modules within WorkNC, such as collision detection and automatic generation of transitions between toolpaths or  assembled 3- or 5-axis toolpaths.
Four new trade toolpaths are now available for machining walls and planar surfaces on die stamping tools. The new Tangent To Curve toolpath is idea for machining specific features on 2D parts by direct selection of vertical surfaces, or by automatic wall detection, following planar surface selection.

While booth K12 will host machining videos, a number of WorkNC’s machine tool partners will be hosting live machining demonstrations on their own booths. These include Hermle Machine Company, Ingersoll Machine Tools, Deckel Maho and Datron.

Also on display is WorkXPlore 3D, the versatile 3D viewer which features numerous display and analysis tools, directly importing and analysing complex data from all major CAD systems, and generating a neutral format output. While the 3D viewer is not a design tool, it is powerful software for the entire process chain – from purchasing through quotation and manufacturing, to marketing.

WorkXPlore 3D contains many features usually only found in CAD systems, enabling the user to perform diagnostics, create assembly instructions and prepare the production of 3D models. The inside of a component or assembly can be examined easily and accurately, and a section plane can be rotated, translated or moved along a guide curve using the mouse. The section curve can be displayed in the 3D model or as an individual entity, and exported using DXF, DWG and other interfaces.

SURFCAM
Across at booth H42, SURFCAM will be demonstrating its first major release as part of Vero – the forthcoming SURFCAM 2014 R1. This new version will include Adaptive Roughing technology as well as multiple enhancements designed to deliver additional ease of use and control in Masking, Chaining, Operations Manager and Layering functionality. SURFCAM 2014 R1 will also provide users and customers complete control over their licensing via the web with the new SURFCAM Customer Portal.  Updated and additional CAD translators, postprocessors and editNC are also included in the release at no additional costs to customers.

Surfcam, Inc. will also be introducing its new, cost effective, 3D modelling solution, Part Modeler. A tool specifically designed for quick and simple construction and modification of solid models with fully associative drafting capabilities.

SURFCAM continues to be an affordable and competitive solution for 2D and 3D modelling, and features easy to use CNC programming for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining. SURFCAM products have been installed on more than 26,000 systems worldwide during the past 25 years.
