Topcon’s IS-310 measurement system increases layout, BIM productivity

LIVERMORE, Calif., USA, CAPELLE A/D IJSSEL, The Netherlands, October 9, 2013 –Topcon Positioning Group announces the IS-310 imaging layout station – an advanced imaging and measurement system designed to increase Building Information Modeling (BIM) productivity in the construction layout and as-built phases of any building project.

The IS-310 can be used on myriad projects, including interior measurement and layout, and on HVAC, piping, walls, ceilings and fixtures,” said Scott Langbein, director of product marketing. “By combining advanced hardware technology with an efficient software workflow, the IS-310 is an excellent example of how Topcon creates solutions that increase productivity on every job.”

The IS-310 features a built-in dual camera system designed to provide a permanent and accurate photo record of each project. The two-camera system provides telephoto and wide-angle images to record the surrounding features.

In addition, the IS-310 has a 360° Photo Fieldbook program that records each point, providing the operator an easy-to-recall ‘as-built’ panoramic image of the entire scene at any time in the future.  “This feature eliminates any confusion about what was occurring on the job site at any time on any specific phase of the project,” Langbein said.

To make construction layout and as-built measurement easier, the IS-310 includes live video control so an operator can aim the instrument at high structural points by simply touching the display on a Topcon Tesla field controller, utilizing the built-in laser pointer if desired.  With the added ability to track a prism in robotic mode, the IS-310 is a one-operator solution for all site work.

Used with Topcon’s MAGNET™ Field Layout and MAGNET Office Layout, solutions that are optimized for the building contractor and layout professional, the new IS-310 was designed with convenient and comprehensive workflow in mind.

MAGNET Field Layout and Office Layout exchange data with MAGNET Enterprise and AutoCAD 360 to ensure that the latest project information is available where it’s needed, bringing BIM to the field,” said Langbein.
