In a Year-Over-Year Analysis, Private Construction Increased 4.3% and Public Construction Jumped 36.5%
CHICAGO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 24, 2013 — For major-metro regions in California, including Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, CA; San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville, CA; San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA; and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA, new construction projects that were actively bidding increased 27.4% in a year-over-year analysis, according to a new 3rd quarter 2013 report from the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI).
In a year-over-year analysis, private construction increased 4.3% and public construction jumped 36.5%. The total contract value of all the California Major-Metro projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $8.2 billion compared to $9.7 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2013.
For the Los Angeles area, in a year-over-year BCI analysis, actively bidding construction projects experienced a 39.4% increase in combined public and private projects. The total value of construction in the Los Angeles area surveyed by the BCI was $3.5 billion in the third quarter of 2013, compared to $5.2 billion in second quarter of 2013.
Among notable Los Angeles projects that BidClerk reported on was the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of $74 Million. The construction manager on the job is Rudolph & Sletten (Irvine, CA) and the architect is Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM).
In the San Francisco area, the BCI’s year-over-year analysis found that overall construction increased 9.5% compared to a 17.9% increase from the same period last year. The total value of construction in the San Francisco area surveyed by the BCI was $1.4 billion for the third quarter of 2013, compared to $1.4 billion in the second quarter of 2013.
