Collection of 3D camera models now offered for industry’s top BIM web service; Autodesk Revit Axis Camera View add-in allows architects, engineers and security system designers to create 3D visualizations of what the camera will see
CHELMSFORD, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 6, 2013 — Axis Communications, the market leader in network video surveillance, announced that Axis Camera Families, the collection of 3D camera models for Autodesk® Revit® users, is now available for Autodesk® Seek®, one of the industry’s most widely used building information modeling (BIM) web services. Additionally, Axis has launched an Axis Camera View add-in for Autodesk Revit, giving architects, engineers and security system designers a quick way to create 3D views from the camera’s point of view inside CAD designs ( see movie).
Autodesk Seek now allows architects, engineers and security system designers to easily find, preview and download 3D models of IP-based cameras from Axis Communications. With Axis’ portfolio of security cameras at their fingertips, architects, engineers and security system designers can interactively visualize camera layouts and fields of view during the design process.
Axis Camera Families lets security system designers place specific Axis network camera icons directly into CAD building plans to visualize the areas that the cameras will cover, see how they fit into the building layout and help identify and reduce unexpected blind spots.
Additionally, with the new Axis Camera View add-in for Revit, users can quickly generate a 3D view of their CAD design as seen through the lens of the Axis camera. This makes it easy to get a good impression of what the final surveillance scene will look like at an early stage in the design project ( see demo movie).
Tools like Axis Camera Families and AXIS Design Tool are available to members of Axis’ Architect & Engineering (A&E) Program, which was recently strengthened in North America with the addition of industry veteran Geoffrey Bauer. Mr. Bauer joined Axis in October as the A&E Program Manager for North America and will serve as a technical liaison and main point of contact for the architectural, engineering and professional security consultant community.
“Building Information Modeling is the established industry standard process for designing, visualizing and simulating buildings in 3D before they are constructed. Autodesk Seek is a widely used and well-known source for BIM models, which can be accessed directly within the design workflow of AutoCAD® and Revit users,” said Nicolas Mangon, Senior Director, AEC Industry and Business Strategy, at Autodesk.
“Making Axis Camera Families available on Autodesk Seek means architects and engineers can now easily access a tool that helps them improve planning and work more efficiently. This will result in more effective value engineering, device placement, conflict identification and aesthetic coordination,” said Peter Friberg, Director of System and Services at Axis Communications.
Axis Camera Families for Autodesk® Revit® includes the vast majority of Axis network cameras, is available free of charge and can be found via the following links at Autodesk Seek and the Axis website.
