New System Complements Aerosol Jet Platform Lineup for Pre-Production and High-Volume Manufacturing
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 7, 2013 — Optomec announced today availability of a new entry-level offering in its lineup of systems for printed electronics, the Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop. This new system is built using Optomec’s patented Aerosol Jet core technology, but in a benchtop form factor ideally suited for research applications, such as prototyping small electronic devices, or developing and certifying new printable inks. The system was developed specifically in response to growing worldwide interest in printed electronics, including the need to train a new generation of workers in additive manufacturing technology.

The Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop system rounds out Optomec’s portfolio of Printed Electronics equipment, which includes the higher functionality and precision Aerosol Jet 300 printer series used for product and process development, as well as low-volume manufacturing applications. Additionally, under the Marathon brand label, Optomec offers a range of highly optimized Aerosol Jet Print Engine configurations for true high-volume production applications.
The first Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop system was delivered to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science at the University of Minnesota, where it is used in research programs focused on understanding connections between structure and electrical transport behavior in organic semiconductors. Professor C. Dan Frisbie, who chairs the Department, stated, “The Aerosol Jet 200 system is an excellent prototyping and development tool. My research group relies on it essentially every day for our work in printed electronics. It's easy to use -- it prints just about anything. My students love it!”
The Aerosol Jet 200 system can process a wide variety of materials including conductive polymer and nano-particle inks, dielectric, resistor, semiconductor, and even biologic materials. The Aerosol Jet proprietary print heads enable deposition of a wide variety of feature sizes ranging from 10 microns to millimeters on both planar and non-planar substrates. The cost-effective system provides a 200 x 200 mm (8 x 8 inch) work envelope and comes with an ultrasonic atomizer, fine feature deposition head, process monitoring and alignment cameras, X-Y motion, process control electronics, and system control and tool path generation software. Optional features for processing high viscosity inks and printing wide feature are also available. For more information on the Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop system click here.
