OGC and PODS Association plan to enhance PODS pipeline management standard

20 November 2013 -- The Open Geospatial Consortium and the PODS Association, Inc. (“PODS”), have signed a liaison agreement to provide value for the members of each organization. The two organizations have agreed to work together to identify enhancement opportunities between the advanced geospatial interoperability concepts developed within the OGC's consensus standards process and the PODS Association's widely used PODS standard and data model.

Mark Reichardt, president and CEO of the Open Geospatial Consortium, said, "The PODS standard and data model play a very important role in the management of pipelines around the world.  I am pleased to be able to bring together OGC and PODS Association expertise to explore ways in which we can further improve interoperability and integration of pipeline information with other important location information."

Janet Sinclair, Executive Director of the Pipeline Open Data Standard (PODS) Association added, “We recognize the tremendous value and expertise brought by the OGC, and we look forward to working together to improve interoperability to support lifecycle data management for pipelines.  Finding better ways to share and exchange pipeline and related information will improve data quality and availability supporting integrity management, regulatory compliance, and the goal of zero pipeline incidents.”

About the PODS Association: The PODS Association was created to develop and support open data storage and interchange standards to meet the specific data management needs of pipeline companies. Visit the PODS Association website at http://www.pods.org.

About the OGC: The  OGC is an international consortium of more than 470 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
