Siemens Industry Automation Selects Atmel maXTouch Controller To Power 19" Touchscreen for Simatic Industrial Flat Panel

maXTouch Controllers Deliver Superior Touch Performance Even in Adverse Industrial Environments with High EMI

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 26, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  Atmel® Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch technology solutions, today announced Siemens Industry Automation has selected Atmel's maXTouch® controller to power the touchscreen for Siemens' Simatic industrial flat panel. Atmel's maXTouch mXT1664S meets all the stringent requirements for industrial environments, delivering seamless touch performance even when subjected to high temperatures, vibrations, impact and electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The Siemens' Simatic Industrial Flat Panel delivers maximum usability in the most rugged environments. The touchscreens on the industrial monitor, powered by Atmel maXTouch controllers, deliver high signal to noise ratio (SNR) enabling superior touch performance even under the nosiest industrial environments. The Atmel maXTouch technology supports users with glove on, water resistance and multi-finger touch even in adverse industrial automation environments.

"Our customers demand continued performance with our industrial machines," said Sidney McLaurin, Product Marketing Manager, Siemens Industry. "We selected Atmel's maXTouch controllers because of their high SNR, resulting in superior touch performance even in unpredictable industrial environments with EMI, water, dust and constant vibrations. Even more, Atmel connected us with their local touch network, from touch module providers to their sensor partners, enabling us to bring our Simatic touchscreen faster to market."

"Siemens is a world-class leader in the industrial automation market and we are committed to helping them bring the most innovative touch capabilities to their customers," said Rob Frizzell, Director of Large Touchscreen Products, Atmel Corporation. "Our work with Siemens highlights just how ubiquitous touch has become, as everyone's expecting intuitive touch interfaces with superior performance whether for consumer, industrial, or automotive applications. We are excited to team with Siemens on the Simatic touch panel and look forward to collaborating on future industrial designs."

Atmel maXTouch controllers deliver advanced touch performance including multi-touch, thinner sensors, superior noise immunity and support for ultra-thin passive stylus. Consumers benefit from these features with a more intuitive, robust interface for their smart, industrial panels on larger touchscreens.
