MakerBot Exhibits with Good Smile Company at Wonder Festival in Japan

Good Smile 3D Printed Models Made on a MakerBot Replicator 3D Printer

(BUSINESS WIRE) — February 7, 2014 — MakerBot:

WHO:     MakerBot, a global leader in the desktop 3D printing industry, is pleased to announce its participation with Good Smile Company, as it showcases a series of collectible models at this year’s Wonder Festival on February 9, 2014, at the Makuhari Messe, a massive convention center that plays host to this year’s Festival.

WHAT:

The Wonder Festival is the world’s largest Japanese collectibles expo in Japan and sees more than 50,000 fans from around the world that gather for one day to view and purchase collectible models or “garage kits,” which are sculptures that can be put together and painted or finished. The models available at Wonder Festival are usually replicas of anime or game characters, but also include popular sci-fi characters and creatures. The models are extremely detailed and many are only available in small or limited quantities at the festival. MakerBot will have a booth space with Good Smile, the worldwide leader in Japanese hobby products and services, for the design, manufacturing and marketing of figures from Japanese anime and games. MakerBot will be sharing Good Smile’s exhibit space at the Wonder Festival, which is so expansive that it takes up a sixth of the showroom floor. MakerBot will be showcasing exclusive 3D printed Ninja models created for the show by Good Smile and MakerBot.

“We are really excited to be here at WonderFest with Good Smile and show these new 3D printed models,” noted Robert Steiner, Special Operations Officer with MakerBot. “Good Smile has a unique niche in the market when it comes to collectibles, and to be able to combine the versatility of 3D printing with the designs from Good Smile, will attract a whole new audience to 3D printing.”

“After attending the Wonder Festival last year as a guest of Good Smile, we knew there was the makings of some very good potential,” said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We are very excited to be here with Good Smile and collaborate to design some amazing new 3D collectible models.”
