Pierce County, Washington to utilize interoperable CAD, Mobile and Analytics
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 16, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- South Sound 911, an interlocal agency created in an effort to consolidate public safety answering points (PSAPs) in Pierce County, Washington, has selected Intergraph®'s public safety solutions to replace multiple disparate systems and support multi-site, multi-jurisdictional, multi-discipline response. The project includes multiple PSAPs for police, fire and EMS in Washington state's second most populous county.
Intergraph's industry-leading computer-aided dispatch system, I/CAD, will enable South Sound 911 call-takers and dispatchers to communicate incident information and view police and fire units on a map, while Intergraph's mobile technologies for laptops, tablets and smartphones will allow field personnel to receive and acknowledge dispatch messages, view incident details and query databases.
"Interoperability, information sharing, and standardization are some of the key capabilities we sought to support South Sound 911's mission and vision," said Andrew Neiditz, executive director of South Sound 911. "This technology will allow us to assign resources from any or all agencies to a single incident providing better protection for our first responders and safer communities."
Through its member agencies — Pierce County, the City of Tacoma, the City of Lakewood, the City of Fife and West Pierce Fire & Rescue— South Sound 911 will provide combined 911 and dispatch services for 16 law enforcement agencies and 22 fire departments. Five 911centers are consolidating or collocating under the initiative.
"When your business is saving lives, access to real-time information is crucial," said Jay Stinson, vice president, Intergraph SG&I. "With Intergraph's solutions, the South Sound 911 agencies can share critical information and make smarter decisions resulting in better communications and shorter response times."
In addition to I/CAD, Intergraph's Mobile Responder, Mobile for Public Safety, I/Netviewer, I/NetDispatcher and I/Tracker provide South Sound 911 with web and mobile dispatching capabilities, while BI Direct and Incident Analyst enable reporting and analytical capabilities for proactive operations. Intergraph's EdgeFrontier® integration software will enable easier interfacing and seamless integration between the public safety agencies.

About South Sound 911
South Sound 911 is the result of collaborative problem-solving efforts between 911 centers and the community. In November 2011, residents of Pierce County voted for a 0.1% sales tax increase to support public safety. With the community's support, five 911 centers are consolidating or collocating under South Sound 911, and an integrated, reliable radio system will be built to provide better protection for first responders – and safer communities.
A voter-approved interlocal agency, South Sound 911 supports public safety throughout Pierce County through 911 and dispatch, records and technology services, and a regional, interoperable first responder radio system.
