PocketCake Moves Towards Next Frontier with Introduction of Virtual Reality to Architectural Firms Using the Oculus Rift

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 17, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Facebook's recent $2 billion acquisition of Oculus VR is further validation of virtual reality's place in a host of industries, including gaming, medicine, the military, education and architecture. The Oculus Rift's arrival has ushered in a new age for virtual reality, one in which motion sickness and the high cost of clumsy equipment are afterthoughts and users can inhabit a real space, walking wherever they want.

PocketCake was among the first developers to receive an Oculus Rift development kit. It wasn't long before the company discovered its niche: architecture. Among an architect's greatest challenges is conveying their designs to a client. PocketCake has learned that multiple aspects of a finished project are typically different than a client envisioned due to the ineffectiveness of traditional illustrations. While a traditional illustration sufficiently demonstrates proportion, it cannot relay scale. A virtual reality simulation of a 3D model accomplishes both - for a cost that's comparable to traditional illustrations.

Over the past several months, PocketCake has introduced virtual reality to 23 architectural firms nationwide. PocketCake has converted 3D models of sports stadiums, fairgrounds, commercial buildings and custom homes into stunning virtual simulations.

In addition, PocketCake is developing VRSCA, a mobile workstation optimized for frame rate frequency, which allows multiple people to experience virtual reality at the same time, whether they're in the same room or scattered across the globe.
