zSpace and NIAR Transform 3D Training and Learning

SUNNYVALE, CA and WICHITA, KS -- (Marketwired) -- Apr 28, 2014 -- zSpace, Inc., a technology provider that is transforming the future of human-computer interaction, today announced it has partnered with Wichita State University's National Institute for Aviation Research ( NIAR) to offer a virtual training solution to deliver advanced training in manufacturing industries such as transportation, aerospace and industrial equipment.

This immersive training solution combines the zSpace 3D platform and NIAR's step-by-step virtual training application, which uses digital models of an aircraft engine developed in Dassault Systèmes' CATIA® and 3DVIA Studio Pro software to provide students the ability to gain the necessary knowledge of how to assemble an aircraft engine. The zSpace allows for intuitive, real-time interaction using a bright 24" HD stereoscopic display system that is responsive to the user's actions and allows interaction with photo-realistic 3D objects or a full virtual environment. Using this application with zSpace's intuitive and real-time environment quickly equips students with the skills and accuracy needed to be productive in a training environment.

"The benefits of virtual training in aircraft assembly are endless," said Jeffery Fisher, VR and CADCAM Research Associate at NIAR. "No physical parts and tools are needed, minimal staff training is required, and students learn by doing at their schedule and pace. This is an ideal solution for high risk scenario training where testing and mistakes are possible."

"We are excited to partner with NIAR to offer an enhanced level of realism and interaction for training, said Paul Kellenberger, CEO of zSpace, Inc. Training managers are outfitted with the tools to streamline field training, allowing workers to bypass frequently encountered barriers to understanding complex content. In turn, workflow productivity is made more efficient with a shorter learning curve, better knowledge retention and equipment familiarization, ultimately saving critical resources and increasing employee engagement and participation."

The application built by the university will be demonstrated at the COE 2014 Annual PLM Conference and TechniFair, April 27 - 30, 2014 in Anaheim, CA. COE is the only international professional organization uniting the users of Dassault Systèmes software. NIAR and Dassault Systèmes will present at the following sessions:
