Art.com Announces 'Art Sparks Learning' School Finalists

EMERYVILLE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Apr 29, 2014 -- Art.com, the world's leading online destination dedicated to experiencing and buying art, today announced three finalist schools in the U.S. for Art Sparks Learning™, an international program that supports art education to help inspire the artists of tomorrow. The finalists have each received 18 of their favorite framed artworks from Art.com. From now until May 23, 2014, family, friends, community members and visitors to Art.com are invited to vote for their favorite school on www.art.com/artsparks. The school with the most votes will receive a grand prize -- a $1,000 gift certificate to BLICK Art Materials to purchase art supplies.

"We believe in the power of art to encourage learning, cognition and critical thinking, and it's been a joy to see our mission come to life through our Art Sparks Learning program," said Geoffroy Martin, CEO of Art.com Inc. "We continue to be inspired by the stories we hear of how art has fueled students' imagination and desire to learn. We look forward to offering more schools around the world the opportunity to enhance their curriculums with art."

As part of this global initiative, six additional finalists from the U.K. and France have also been selected to receive artwork from Art.com, offering students all over the world a chance to learn about and be inspired by art. Since its inception in 2012, Art Sparks Learning has already granted more than 300 artworks to schools throughout the U.S. and the U.K. This is the fourth iteration of the program.

Earlier this year, the public was invited to nominate a school in their community to be part of the fourth Art Sparks Learning campaign. The three U.S. finalists are:

  • Yu Ming Charter School; Oakland, Calif.: Yu Ming is a public K-8 Mandarin immersion school that primarily serves northern Alameda County, Calif. The collection of framed artwork from Art.com will provide an inspirational atmosphere in the classrooms, complementing the school's efforts to provide enrichment in arts and culture for it students.
  • South Lincoln Elementary School; Fayetteville, Tenn.: With no funds for a formal art program, teachers at South Lincoln Elementary School are excited to hang the new pieces of landscape artwork donated by Art.com as a way to incorporate art into their classrooms and expose students to many places and scenes from around the world.
  • PS 133 William A. Butler School; Brooklyn, N.Y.: PS 133 prides itself on being part of a diverse community. It is the only school in New York City to prioritize admission to English Language Learners and students qualifying for lunch. Teachers and parent volunteers strive to make art a focus for students by bringing art out of the studio and into the classroom.

Help support the artists of tomorrow by visiting www.art.com/artsparks and voting for the school of your choice. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. For ongoing updates on the Art Sparks Learning campaign, follow #ArtSparks on Twitter.
